Abstract

Techniques for sharing user interactions are disclosed. A user can effectively share content with a group of users in as little as one action by using a sharing control associated with the content. The sharing control can be implemented using links or voice activated commands. Other users can specify interest in user particular events and be automatically alerted to the occurrence of the events. The shared content may include many types of content such as news, alerts, messages, tables and/or charts. The sharing control can be displayed as a part of a web page, or in a display of a local application that is not a browser. The local application can be installed on a wireless PDA.

Claims

1. A system, comprising one or more processors configured to execute instructions that cause the system to perform a method comprising steps of:

causing display of a particular display on a first computing device of a first user;

wherein the particular display includes a sharing control that is associated with sharable content;

wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the particular display;

wherein the sharing control enables the first user, without requiring any indication of with whom to share the sharable content, to cause a computer-based service to send, to at least one second computing device of at least one second user, a sharing message to enable the at least one second user to access the sharable content; and

wherein the at least one second computing device is different from said first computing device.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing message includes an access identifier that provides access to the sharable content; and

the sharing control includes the access identifier.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the access identifier provides access to all of the particular display.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing message includes an access identifier that provides access to the sharable content; and

the access identifier is a URL.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing message includes an access identifier that provides access to the sharable content; and

the method further comprises, in response, at least in part, to the at least one second user using the access identifier, sending said sharable content to the at least one second user.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display is a web page; and

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device includes sending the web page to first computing device.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a program that is installed on the first computing device; and

the program is not a web browser.

8. The system of claim 7 wherein:

the first computing device is a wireless PDA;

the program is downloaded to the first computing device from an application storage that is remote relative to the first computing device; and

the application storage is maintained remote from said computer-based service.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein sending the sharing message is performed in real-time.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing control enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the computer-based service to send the sharing message; and

the at least one action includes selecting a link.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing control enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the computer-based service to send the sharing message; and

the at least one action includes a voice command.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the sharing control enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the computer-based service to send the sharing message; and

the at least one action is a single action.

13. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharable content includes content from a table view.

14. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharable content includes content from a chart view.

15. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of alerts; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of alerts.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein:

the at least one of the plurality of alerts is generated in response to interaction of a third user; and

the third user is different user than both the first user and the at least one second user.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein the third user is a user in whom the first user has expressed an interest.

18. The system of claim 16 wherein the third user is a user in whom the first user has specified an interest.

19. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view that contains a plurality of news items; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the news items.

20. The system of claim 19 wherein:

the particular display is generated by a third computing device; and

content of the at least one of the news items is obtained from a data source that is remote relative to both the first computing device and the third computing device.

21. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view; and

the sharable content includes at least a portion of content of the news view.

22. The system of claim 21 wherein:

the particular display is generated by a third computing device; and

content of the news view is obtained from a data source that is remote relative to both the first computing device and the third computing device.

23. The system of claim 22 wherein the third computing device is different than the first computing device and the at least one second computing device.

24. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of messages; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of messages.

25. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharable content includes a transaction of an item.

26. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the particular display is generated by the first computing device; and

the first computing device is a wireless PDA.

27. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one second user includes a plurality of second users.

28. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharing message is sent to the at least one second user based on an expression of interest, by the at least one second user, in being notified about interactions of the first user.

29. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharing message is sent to the at least one second user based on a specification of interest, by the at least one second user, in being notified about interactions of the first user.

30. The system of claim 1 wherein the sharable content is less than all of the content from the particular display.

31. The system of claim 1 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a web browser that is installed on the first computing device.

32. The system of claim 1 wherein the computer-based service determines to whom to send the sharing message based, at least in part, on information provided by the first user prior to causing display of the particular display.

33. The system of claim 1 wherein the computer-based service is remote relative to the first computing device and the at least one second computing device.

34. The system of claim 33 wherein:

the particular display is generated by a third computing device;

the third computing device is different than the first computing device and the at least one second computing device; and

the computer-based service communicates with the third computing device over a network.

35. A method for sharing content, the method comprising:

causing display of a particular display on a first computing device of a first user;

wherein the particular display includes a sharing control that is associated with sharable content;

wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the particular display;

wherein the sharing control enables the first user, without requiring any indication of with whom to share the sharable content, to cause a computer-based service to send, to at least one second computing device of at least one second user, a sharing message to enable the at least one second user to access the sharable content; and

wherein the at least one second computing device is different from said first computing device.

36. The method of claim 35 wherein the sharing control includes an access identifier that provides access to the sharable content.

37. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display is a web page; and

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device includes sending the web page to first computing device.

38. The method of claim 35 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a program that is installed on the first computing device; and

the program is not a web browser.

39. The method of claim 38 wherein:

the first computing device is a wireless PDA;

the program is downloaded to the first computing device.

40. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the sharing control enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the computer-based service to send the sharing message; and

the at least one action is a single action.

41. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of alerts; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of alerts.

42. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view that contains a plurality of news items; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the news items.

43. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view; and

the sharable content includes at least a portion of content of the news view.

44. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of messages; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of messages.

45. The method of claim 35 wherein the sharable content includes a transaction of an item.

46. The method of claim 35 wherein:

the particular display is generated by the first computing device; and

the first computing device is a wireless PDA.

47. The method of claim 35 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a web browser that is installed on the first computing device.

48. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising steps of:

causing display of a particular display on a first computing device of a first user;

wherein the particular display includes a sharing control that is associated with sharable content;

wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the particular display;

wherein the sharing control enables the first user, without requiring any indication of with whom to share the sharable content, to cause a computer-based service to send, to at least one second computing device of at least one second user, a sharing message to enable the at least one second user to access the sharable content; and

wherein the at least one second computing device is different from said first computing device.

49. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein the sharing control includes an access identifier that provides access to the sharable content.

50. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display is a web page; and

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device includes sending the web page to first computing device.

51. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a program that is installed on the first computing device; and

the program is not a web browser.

52. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 51 wherein:

the first computing device is a wireless PDA;

the program is downloaded to the first computing device.

53. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the sharing control enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the computer-based service to send the sharing message; and

the at least one action is a single action.

54. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of alerts; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of alerts.

55. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view that contains a plurality of news items; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the news items.

56. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display includes a news view; and

the sharable content includes at least a portion of content of the news view.

57. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display includes a plurality of messages; and

the sharable content includes at least one of the plurality of messages.

58. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein the sharable content includes a transaction of an item.

59. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

the particular display is generated by the first computing device; and

the first computing device is a wireless PDA.

60. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 48 wherein:

causing display of the particular display on the first computing device is performed by a web browser that is installed on the first computing device.
