Abstract

At least one cam lock and an opposing structure form a compression channel for receiving and engaging a pistol slide. When the pistol is moved in a certain direction through the compression channel, the one or more cam locks and opposing structure engage the pistol'"'"'s slide and translate some of the forward motion force into a compressive force on the sides of the slide. At a point where the compressive force overcomes the force of the main spring of the pistol, the pistol frame driven by the user moves forward relative to the slide, thereby racking the slide of the pistol.

Claims

1. An assistive device for operating a slide portion of a pistol comprising:

a first cam lock for receiving and frictionally engaging a first side of a slide portion of a pistol; and

a counter structure juxtaposed to the first cam lock providing a compression channel suitable for receiving a slide portion of a pistol and engaging a second side of the slide portion, configured to allow passing the slide portion through the compression channel in a first direction while holding a grip portion of the pistol resulting in the first cam lock engaging the first side, the counter structure engaging the second structure, and a compressive force to be applied from the first side to the second side to assist in driving the slide portion towards a rear of the pistol.

2. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 wherein a width of the compression channel ranges from essentially 0.70 inches to 1.50 inches.

3. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 in which the compressive force is sufficient to overcome the force of a main spring of a pistol.

4. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 in which the first cam lock is a rotating cam lock.

5. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 in which the first cam lock is a linear cam lock.

6. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 in which the counter structure comprises a second cam lock.

7. The assistive device as set forth in claim 6 in which the second cam lock comprises a rotating cam lock.

8. The assistive device as set forth in claim 6 in which the second cam lock comprises a linear cam lock.

9. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 in which the counter structure comprises a wall having a surface juxtaposed to the first cam lock.

The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a device for attaching the first cam lock and the opposing structure to one or more armament holding systems selected from the group consisting of a belt, a thigh rig, an ankle rig, a wrist rig, a glove, a vest, a back pack, a waist pack, a carry bag, and a piece of furniture.

11. The assistive device as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a base plate upon which the first cam lock and the opposing structure are disposed.

12. The assistive device as set forth in claim 11 further comprising a cushioning material disposed on a surface of the base plate so as to prevent damage to a finish of a slide portion of a pistol.

13. The assistive device as set forth in claim 11 further comprising a cushioning material disposed on a surface of the base plate so as to provide frictional force when engaged to a slide portion of a pistol.

14. A method for producing an assistive device for operating a slide portion of a pistol, the method comprising:

providing a first cam lock for receiving and frictionally engaging a first side of a slide portion of a pistol; and

providing a counter structure mechanically juxtaposed to the first cam lock thereby defining a compression channel between the first cam lock and the counter structure, wherein the compression channel is suitable for receiving a slide portion of a pistol and engaging a second side of the slide portion, wherein passing the slide portion through the compression channel in a first direction while holding a grip portion of the pistol results in the first cam lock engaging the first side, the counter structure engaging the second structure, and a compressive force being applied from the first side to the second side to assist in driving the slide portion towards a rear of the pistol.

15. The method as set forth in claim 14 wherein a width of the compression channel ranges from essentially 0.70 inches to 1.50 inches.

16. The method as set forth in claim 14 in which the compressive force is sufficient to overcome the force of a main spring of a pistol.

17. The method as set forth in claim 14 in which providing of the first cam lock comprises providing a rotating cam lock.

18. The method as set forth in claim 14 in which the providing of the first cam lock comprises providing a linear cam lock.

19. The method as set forth in claim 14 in the providing of the counter structure comprises providing at least one element selected from the group consisting of a rotating cam lock, a linear cam lock, and a surface juxtaposed to the first cam lock.

20. The method as set forth in claim 14 further comprising a device for attaching the first cam lock and the opposing structure to one or more armament holding systems selected from the group consisting of a belt, a thigh rig, an ankle rig, a wrist rig, a glove, a vest, a back pack, a waist pack, a carry bag, and a piece of furniture.

21. The method as set forth in claim 14 further comprising providing a base plate, and disposing the first cam lock and the opposing structure on the base plate.

22. The method as set forth in claim 21 further comprising providing a material disposed on a surface of the base plate, the material comprising at least one material selected from the group consisting of a cushioning material and a frictional material.
