Abstract

Accessories for mobile devices. Embodiments include an external protective case and/or holster for mobile electronic devices, where the external protective case/holster incorporates a battery pack, a payment processing device, television signal receiver, and/or a modular multi-input/output device.

Claims

1. An external processing mobile accessory for a mobile communication device comprising:

a casing defining a cavity that conforms, at least partially, to an outer shape of the mobile communication device; and

one or more processors housed within the casing and the one or more processors adapted to;

perform one or more tasks to obtain data, and

communicate the obtained data to the mobile communication device.

2. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more input interfaces coupled to the one or more processors to provide the data to the one or more processors, and

one or more output interfaces coupled to the one or more processors to carry the data from the one or more processors.

3. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

an internal interface coupled to the one or more processors and adapted to engage a corresponding interface on the mobile communication device to transmit signals to or from the mobile communication device.

4. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

a memory module communicatively coupled to the one or more processors and adapted to store the data.

5. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

an external interface electrically coupled to the internal interface, the external interface adapted to transmit signals from the mobile communication device to an external device.

6. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

an cryptographic module adapted to encrypt signals transmitted from the external processing mobile accessory to the mobile communications device, and further adapted to decrypt signals received by the external processing mobile accessory from the mobile communications device.

7. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 1, further comprising:

a power cell module that powers at least one of the of the one or more processors and the mobile communication device.

8. An external processing mobile accessory configured to couple to a mobile device comprising:

a casing defining a cavity that conforms, at least partially, to an outer shape of the mobile device;

an input interface housed within the casing, the input interface configured to perform one or more tasks to obtain data;

a processor, coupled to the input interface and housed within the casing, the processor configured to manipulate the obtained data resulting in processed data;

an internal interface, coupled to the processor and housed within the casing, the external interface configured to communicate the processed data to the mobile device.

9. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 8, further comprising:

a memory module, coupled to the processor and housed within the casing, the memory module adapted to store either the obtained data or the processed data.

10. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 8, further comprising:

an external interface, coupled to the internal interface, the external interface adapted to transmit signals from the mobile device to an external device.

11. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 8, further comprising:

an cryptographic module, coupled to the external interface and housed within the casing, the cryptographic module configured to encrypt signals transmitted from the external processing mobile accessory to the mobile device, and further configured to decrypt signals received by the external processing mobile accessory from the mobile device.

12. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 8, further comprising:

a power cell module, housed within the casing, that powers the processor or the mobile device.

13. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 9, further comprising:

an external interface, coupled to the internal interface, the external interface adapted to transmit signals from the mobile device to an external device.

14. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 13, further comprising:

an cryptographic module, coupled to the external interface and housed within the casing, the cryptographic module configured to encrypt signals transmitted from the external processing mobile accessory to the mobile device, and further configured to decrypt signals received by the external processing mobile accessory from the mobile device.

15. The external processing mobile accessory of claim 14, further comprising:

a power cell module, housed within the casing, that powers the processor or the mobile device.
