Abstract

A tray (100) for accommodating a coiled medical device, such as a catheter assembly (700), includes a first compartment (101), a second compartment (102), and a third compartment (103). The catheter assembly (700) and devices associated with a catheterization procedure, such as syringes (701,702) containing sterile water and lubricating jelly and a specimen container (703) can be disposed within the tray. Printed instructions (1001) can be included with the tray (100). One or more layers of wrap material (2200) can be folded about the tray (100) to enclose the tray (100) and other items, such as an additional layer of wrap material (2701), packaged liquid hand sanitizer (2401), and packaged gloves (2402). When a health care services provider (3101) unfolds the wrap material, the same can be used to create a sterile field beneath a patient (3201).

Claims

1. A method of packaging a medical procedure kit, comprising:

providing at least one tray having a compartment for receiving the medical assembly;

placing the medical assembly within the compartment;

placing the at least one tray on at least one layer of wrap material; and

enclosing the at least one tray in the at least one layer of wrap material by folding the at least one layer of wrap material about the tray.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising enclosing between one or more folds of the at least one layer of wrap material one or more medical devices.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the one or more medical devices comprise gloves, hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, instructions for using the medical procedure kit, or combinations thereof.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising an outer packaging disposed about both the tray and the at least one layer of wrap material.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising disposing an instruction manual along the at least one layer of wrap material, wherein at least a portion of the instruction manual is disposed outside at least a portion of the at least one the layer of wrap material and within outer packaging.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising affixing one of an instruction tag, printed instructions, a checklist, or combinations thereof to the outer packaging, the one of an instruction tag, printed instructions, a checklist, or combinations thereof comprising indicia regarding use of the medical procedure kit.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the one of an instruction tag, printed instructions, a checklist, or combinations thereof comprises a peelable flap that, when opened, reveals instructional material therein.

8. The method of claim 4, further comprising disposing an instruction manual along the at least one layer of wrap material, wherein the instruction manual is disposed outside the at least one layer of wrap material and within the outer packaging.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the instruction manual comprises:

a health care services portion comprising instructions for using the medical procedure kit and corresponding medical devices on a patient; and

a patient portion.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the patient portion is detachably coupled to the health care services portion and separated from the health care services portion by a perforation.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the health care services portion comprises product information, health care services provider instructions, and a checklist.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the folding the at least one layer of wrap material about the tray comprises:

folding a first portion of the at least one layer of wrap material about a first side of the tray; and

folding a second portion of the at least one layer of wrap material about a second side of the tray.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the folding the at least one layer of wrap material about the tray further comprises:

folding a third portion of the at least one layer of wrap material about a third side of the tray;

folding a fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material about a fourth side of the tray; and

tucking at least one of the first portion, the second portion, the third portion, or the fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material beneath at least another of the first portion, the second portion, the third portion, or the fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising disposing a layer of additional wrap material along folded portions of the at least one layer of wrap material prior to the folding the fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material about the fourth side of the tray.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the tucking the at least one of the first portion, the second portion, the third portion, or the fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material beneath the at least another of the first portion, the second portion, the third portion, or the fourth portion of the at least one layer of wrap material encloses the layer of additional wrap material within portions of the at least one layer of wrap material.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the tray comprises at least a first compartment with a first compartment base member having an inclined, stair-step contour, and a second compartment, wherein the first compartment and the second compartment are separated by a first barrier having an opening therein

17. A catheter package assembly with instructions, comprising

a tray having a catheter assembly disposed therein;

one or more layers of wrap folded about the tray so as to enclose the tray within the one or more layers of wrap, ending in one or more folds;

one or more of an instruction set, one or more medical devices, or combinations thereof disposed within the one or more folds; and

a thermally sealed bag disposed about the tray.

18. The catheter package assembly of claim 17, wherein the one or more layers of wrap comprises four portions of wrap folded about four sides of the tray, respectively, with at least one portion of the four portions of wrap folded beneath at least another portion of the four portions of wrap to enclose the tray.

19. The catheter package assembly of claim 18, further comprising an additional layer of wrap enclosed within one or more of the four portions of wrap.

20. The catheter package assembly of claim 19, wherein the one or more layers of wrap and the additional layer of wrap are different colors.

21. The catheter package assembly of claim 17, further comprising an instruction manual comprising a health care services portion and a patient portion.

22. The catheter package assembly of claim 21, wherein the patient portion is disposed within the one or more folds and the health care services portion is disposed outside the one or more folds and within the thermally sealed bag.

23. The catheter package assembly of claim 21, further comprising an instruction tag affixed to the thermally sealed bag, the instruction tag comprising indicia regarding at least one of valid reasons for using the catheter assembly or a checklist for using the catheter assembly.

24. The catheter package assembly of claim 21, wherein the patient portion is configured as a greeting card.

25. The catheter package assembly of claim 17, wherein the tray comprises:

a contoured surface defining at least three compartments separated by barriers and a perimeter wall, the at least three compartments comprising;

a first compartment comprising a first compartment base member having at least one stair-stepped contour;

a second compartment comprising a second base member;

a first barrier separating the first compartment from the second compartment, wherein the first barrier defines a first opening between the first compartment and the second compartment, the first opening having a first opening depth;

a third compartment comprising a third base member; and

a second barrier separating the second compartment from the third compartment, wherein the second barrier defines a second opening between the second compartment and the third compartment, the second opening having a second opening depth.

26. The catheter package assembly of claim 17, wherein at least one of the one or more layers of wrap comprises a CSR wrap.

32. The method of claim 26, further comprising placing another of one or more layers of wrap or the additional layer of wrap atop the patient.

27. A method of using a catheter package assembly, comprising:

opening a thermally sealed bag disposed about a tray having a catheter assembly disposed therein;

accessing an instruction manual;

unfolding one or more layers of wrap to reveal an additional layer of wrap and the catheter assembly; and

placing one of the one or more layers of wrap or the additional layer of wrap beneath a patient, thereby transforming an area beneath the patient from a non-sterile field to a sterile field.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the instruction manual comprises a health care services portion and a patient portion detachably coupled thereto.

29. The method of claim 27, wherein the instruction manual comprises a patient portion configured as a greeting card and disposed at least partially within the one or more layers of wrap material.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the accessing comprises peeling a peelable flap from a health care services portion of printed instructions affixed to the thermally sealed bag.

31. The method of claim 28, wherein the accessing comprises accessing the patient portion prior to the unfolding and accessing the health care services portion after at least some of the unfolding.
