1. An implantable medical device for implantation in a patient, for delivering neural stimulation to a neural target in the patient, and for delivering defibrillation shocks to a heart in the patient, the device comprising:

  • a housing configured to be implanted in a patient;

    circuitry within the housing, wherein the circuitry is configured to generate cardiac defibrillation shocks and neural stimulation pulses;

    a cardiac electrode electrically connected to the circuitry and configured to be used in delivering cardiac defibrillation shocks generated by the circuitry to the patient'"'"'s heart;

    a neural stimulation electrode electrically connected to the circuitry and configured to deliver the neural stimulation pulses generated by the circuitry to the neural target in the patient; and

    a controller configured to store programmed instructions and to use the programmed instructions to control the circuitry and deliver an apnea therapy.
