Abstract

A patient notification and response system comprises a communications network, a server, a workstation, and a remote motion device. The server is operatively connected to the communications network and comprises a database and a script generator. The database comprises script programs, where each script program is associated with a patient notification message. The script generator is configured to generate a script having one or more commands based on the script programs. The workstation is operatively connected to the communications network and displays a user interface configured to allow a first user to select a selected script program from the database on the server. The remote motion device operatively connected to the communications network, where the remote motion device is in the possession of a second user associated with a patient and comprises a speaker, a microphone, a motion system, and a controller. Based on the script commands of the selected script program, the controller causes the speaker to generate first audible signals perceivable by the second user, activates the motion system to cause movement of the remote motion device perceivable by the second user, and transmits to the first user responses generated based on second audible signals made by the second user in response to at least one of the first audible signals and the movement of the remote motion device.

Claims

1. A patient notification and response system comprising:

a communications network;

a server operatively connected to the communications network, where the server comprises

a database comprising script programs, where each script program is associated with a patient notification message, and

a script generator configured to generate a script having one or more commands based on the script programs;

a workstation operatively connected to the communications network, where the workstation displays a user interface configured to allow a first user to select a selected script program from the database on the server;

a remote motion device operatively connected to the communications network, where the remote motion device is in the possession of a second user associated with a patient and comprises

a speaker,

a microphone,

a motion system, and

a controller;

whereby

based on the script commands of the selected script program, the controller

causes the speaker to generate first audible signals perceivable by the second user,

activates the motion system to cause movement of the remote motion device perceivable by the second user, and

transmits to the first user responses generated based on second audible signals made by the second user and received by the microphone in response to at least one of the first audible signals and the movement of the remote motion device.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein said remote motion device comprises a memory configured to store said one or more commands.

3. The system according to claim 2, wherein said memory is further configured to store audio sounds for speech synthesis.

4. The system according to claim 1, wherein said remote motion device includes built in speech recognition.

5. The system according to claim 1, wherein said commands comprise speech commands configured to synthesize said audible signals.

6. The system according to claim 5, wherein said audible signals comprise phrases or statements.

7. The system according to claim 6, wherein said commands further comprise delay commands.

8. The system according to claim 7, wherein said delay commands are configured to instruct said remote motion device to pause for one or more seconds between said statements.

9. The system according to claim 1, wherein:

the first user includes a health care provider not in the presence of the patient; and

the second user includes a health care provider in the presence of the patient.

10. The system according to claim 1, wherein:

the first user includes a health care provider not in the presence of the patient; and

the second user is the patient.

11. The system according to claim 10, wherein:

the first user includes a health care provider not in the presence of the patient; and

said second user is a parent of the patient.

12. A method of notifying and obtaining responses from a patient comprising the steps of:

operatively connecting a server to a communications network, where the server comprises

a database comprising script programs, where each script program is associated with a patient notification message, and

a script generator configured to generate a script having one or more commands based on the script programs;

operatively connecting a workstation to the communications network, where the workstation displays a user interface configured to allow a first user to select a selected script program from the database on the server;

operatively connecting a remote motion device to the communications network, where the remote motion device is in the possession of a second user associated with a patient and comprises a speaker, a microphone, and a motion system;

based on the script commands of the selected script program,

causing the speaker to generate first audible signals perceivable by the second user,

activating the motion system to cause movement of the remote motion device perceivable by the second user, and

transmitting to the first user responses generated based on second audible signals made by the second user and received by the microphone in response to at least one of the first audible signals and the movement of the remote motion device.

13. The method according to claim 12, further comprising the step of storing the one or more commands in memory of the remote motion device.

14. The method according to claim 13, further comprising the step of storing audio sounds for speech synthesis in the memory of the remote motion device.

15. The method according to claim 12, further comprising the step of performing speech recognition at the remote motion device.

16. The method according to claim 12, further comprising the step of synthesizing the audible signals at the remote motion device.

17. The method according to claim 12, further comprising the step of instructing the remote motion device to pause for one or more seconds between the first audible signals.
