Abstract

A delivery device system is provided for assisting a patient and physician in maintaining a depth and position of an inserted catheter within a target tissue. The delivery device includes a base member that is secured to an external surface of the patient. The base member includes an aperture through which a catheter is inserted to access the target tissue. The base member further includes a hinged clip that selectively locks into a closed position to secure the catheter within the delivery device and maintain a desired insertion depth of the catheter within the target tissue. The base member further includes a receiving channel for compatibly and adjustably securing an adapter portion of the catheter in a horizontal orientation.

Claims

1. A catheter mounting apparatus, comprising:

a base having a substantially planar surface for forming an interface with a patient;

a receiving channel forming a distal end of the base and configured to receive an adapter portion of a catheter, a portion of the receiving channel further having a clip catch;

a catheter support having a first cambered surface and a first groove for receiving a tube portion of the catheter;

an aperture positioned proximal to the catheter support, the aperture providing a pathway through the base to accommodate passage of the tube portion of the catheter through the base;

a clip hingedly coupled to a proximal end of the base, the clip having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface having a second cambered surface and a second groove for retaining the portion of the catheter against the first cambered surface and the first groove, the outer surface having a ledge feature to compatibly interlock with the clip catch, wherein the clip comprises an opened position and a closed position.

The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of grooves forming a portion of the receiving channel, the plurality of grooves being configured to compatibly receive a plurality of tongues forming an outer surface of the catheter adapter, wherein an interaction between the plurality of grooves and the plurality of tongues secures a position of the catheter adapter within the receiving channel.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein an inner surface of the receiving channel is configured to mirror an outer surface of the catheter adapter, and wherein the outer surface of the catheter adapter compatibly seats within the inner surface of the receiving channel.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second groove of the clip further comprises a pair of opposing catheter guards that straddle a portion of the catheter when the clip is in the closed position.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the closed position interlocks the clip catch of the receiving channel and the ledge feature of the clip.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the base further comprises a plurality of holes for receiving a plurality of fasteners.

7. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the plurality of tongues adjustably interlocks with the plurality of grooves at a plurality of positions, whereby the catheter adapter is selectively coupled to the receiving channel of the apparatus at the plurality of positions.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein selective coupling of the catheter adapter to the plurality of positions adjusts and determines an insertion depth of a tip portion of the catheter within a target tissue.

9. A method for adjustably securing a catheter to a patient in a low profile configuration, the method comprising:

accessing a target tissue of the patient by providing an access aperture through a bone of the patient;

securing a catheter retaining device to an external surface of the patient via a plurality of fasteners, an aperture of the catheter retaining device being aligned with the access aperture of the patient;

inserting a tip portion of the catheter into the target tissue via the access aperture and the aperture of the catheter retaining device;

advancing the tip portion of the catheter to a desired depth within the target tissue;

securing an adapter portion of the catheter into a receiving channel of the catheter retaining device, the receiving channel being generally perpendicular to a vertical plane of the access aperture and the inserted portion of the catheter;

supporting an uninserted portion of the catheter with a catheter support having a first cambered support surface;

securing the uninserted portion of the catheter between a hingedly coupled clip and the catheter support, the hingedly coupled clip including a second cambered support surface and further including a tab feature configured to interlock with a clip catch portion of the receiving channel in a closed position, wherein the adapter portion of the catheter interlocks within the receiving channel to maintain the desired depth of the tip portion of the catheter.

The method of claim 9, further comprising interlocking a plurality of grooves, the plurality of grooves forming a portion of the receiving channel, with a plurality of tongues forming an outer surface of the adapter portion of the catheter, wherein an interaction between the plurality of grooves and the plurality of tongues secures the adapter portion of the catheter at a desired position within the receiving channel.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein an inner surface of the receiving channel is configured to mirror an outer surface of the adapter portion of the catheter, and wherein the outer surface of the adapter portion compatibly seats within the inner surface of the receiving channel.

The method of claim 9, further comprising providing a first catheter groove on the first cambered support surface, and providing a second catheter groove on the second cambered support surface, wherein the first and second catheter grooves provide a channel in which the uninserted portion of the catheter rests when the hingedly coupled clip is in the closed position.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein the closed position interlocks the clip catch of the receiving channel and the tab feature of the hingedly coupled clip.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the plurality of tongues adjustably interlocks with the plurality of grooves at a plurality of positions, whereby the adapter portion of the catheter is selectively coupled to the receiving channel at the plurality of positions.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the second catheter groove of the hingedly coupled clip further comprises a pair of opposing catheter guards that straddle and retain a portion of the uninserted portion of the catheter when the hingedly coupled clip is in the closed position.

16. The method of claim 14, further comprising selectively coupling the adapter portion of the catheter to at least one of the plurality of positions to achieve a desired insertion depth of a tip portion of the catheter within a target tissue.

17. A low profile catheter mounting device, comprising:

a base having a substantially planar surface for forming an interface with a patient;

a receiving channel forming a distal end of the base and having a horizontally positioned cavity for receiving an adapter portion of a catheter, a portion of the receiving channel further having a clip catch;

a catheter support having a first cambered surface for supporting an uninserted portion of the catheter in an arched configuration;

an aperture positioned proximal to the catheter support, the aperture providing a pathway through the base to accommodate passage of a tip portion of the catheter through the base;

a clip hingedly coupled to a proximal end of the base, the clip having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface having a second cambered surface for retaining the uninserted portion of the catheter against the first cambered surface of the catheter support, the outer surface having a ledge feature to compatibly interlock with the clip catch, wherein the clip comprises an opened position and a closed position.

The device of claim 17, further comprising a plurality of grooves forming a portion of the horizontally positioned cavity, the plurality of grooves being configured to compatibly and interchangeably receive a plurality of tongues forming an outer surface of the adapter portion of the catheter, wherein an interaction between the plurality of grooves and the plurality of tongues secures a portion of the catheter adapter within the receiving channel.

The device of claim 17, wherein an inner surface of the horizontally positioned cavity is configured to mirror an outer surface of the adapter portion of the catheter, and wherein the outer surface of the adapter portion compatibly seats within the inner surface of the horizontally positioned cavity to retain the adapter portion of the catheter in a generally horizontal orientation.

The device of claim 17, further comprising a first catheter groove forming a portion of the first cambered surface, and a second catheter groove forming a portion of the second cambered surface, wherein the first and second catheter grooves accommodate and retain the uninserted portion of the catheter between the catheter support and the clip when the clip is in the closed position.

21. The device of claim 17, wherein the base further comprises a plurality of holes for receiving a plurality of fasteners.

The device of claim 18, wherein the plurality of tongues adjustably interlocks with the plurality of grooves at a plurality of positions, whereby the adapter portion of the catheter is selectively coupled to the receiving channel of the device at the plurality of positions to maintain a desired insertion depth of a tip portion of the catheter within a target tissue.
