Abstract

A method of matching sources to loads includes affecting load activity at a load with a pattern, receiving source activity data representing source activity at a plurality of sources, and matching the load to at least one source based on the source activity data. A system for matching sources to loads includes a load activity manipulator operably connected to a load and configured to affect load activity of the load with a pattern. The system for matching sources to loads further includes an activity monitor configured to receive source activity data representing source activity at the sources. The system for matching sources to loads also includes a matching engine operably connected to the activity monitor and configured to match the load to at least one source based on the source activity data.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method of matching sources to loads, the method comprising:

receiving load activity data representing load activity over a time period;

receiving source activity data representing source activity over the time period, where the source activity data includes data reflecting aggregated load activity corresponding to multiple loads operably connected to one source; and

matching at least two loads from the multiple loads to the source based on the load activity data and the source activity data.

2. The method of claim 1, where the load activity corresponds to at least one of power consumption, signal strength, heat dissipation, torque, pressure, flow, operations per unit time, CPU utilization, I/O utilization, and network utilization.

3. The method of claim 1, where the source activity corresponds to at least one of power consumption, current, harmonic distortion, power factor, real power, apparent power, pressure, and flow.

4. The method of claim 1, where the matching includes:

scoring similarity between the load activity data and the source activity data; and

assigning the at least two loads to the source based on the scoring such that the resulting assignment is optimal.

5. The method of claim 1, where the matching includes:

manipulating the load activity over the time period of at least one load from the multiple loads, where the manipulating includes affecting the load activity with a known pattern.

6. The method of claim 5, where the matching further includes:

recognizing the known pattern in the source activity data.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

manipulating the load activity over the time period of at least one load from the multiple loads, where the manipulating encodes load identifying information.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

decoding the load identifying information from the source activity data.

9. A computer implemented method of matching sources to loads, the method comprising:

affecting load activity of at least one load from a plurality of loads;

receiving source activity data representing source activity of at least one source from a plurality of sources; and

matching the at least one load to the at least one source based on the source activity data.

10. The method of claim 9, where the affecting affects the load activity with a pattern, and the matching includes recognizing the pattern in the source activity data.

11. The method of claim 10, where the pattern corresponds to information identifying the at least one load.

12. The method of claim 10, where the pattern has a predetermined frequency.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving load activity data representing the load activity; and

where the matching matches the at least one load to the at least one source based on the source activity data and the load activity data.

14. The method of claim 9, where the source activity data reflects aggregated load activity corresponding to load activity at a plurality of loads.

15. A system for automatically matching loads to sources, the system comprising:

a load activity manipulator operably connected to at least one load and configured to affect load activity of the at least one load with a pattern;

an activity monitor configured to receive at least one of load activity data representing load activity at the at least one load and source activity data representing source activity of at least one source;

a data store operably connected to the activity monitor and configured to store the at least one of the source activity data and the load activity data; and

a matching engine operably connected to at least one of the activity monitor and the data store, and configured to match the at least one source to the at least one load based on the at least one of the source activity data and the load activity data.

16. The system of claim 15, where the matching engine is further configured to recognize the pattern in the source activity data.

17. The system of claim 15, where the source activity data includes data reflecting aggregated load activity corresponding to multiple loads operably connected to one source.

18. The system of claim 15, where the source activity corresponds to at least one of power consumption, current, harmonic distortion, power factor, real power, apparent power, pressure, and flow.

19. The system of claim 15, where the pattern corresponds to information uniquely identifying the at least one load in the system.

20. The system of claim 19, where the matching engine is further configured to decode the information uniquely identifying the at least one load in the system from the source activity data.
