Abstract

The invention provides a finger-type peristaltic pump (2) having a body (4) and a housing (6). The body contains two or more finger-type valves (16) and a processor (22) configured to operate the valves according to a predetermined temporo-spatial pattern. The housing has a passageway (18) configured to receive a conduit. The housing has a first position in which a conduit in the passageway is positioned adjacent to the valve fingers, and a second position in which a conduit in the passageway is not adjacent to the valve fingers. The invention also provides a housing for use in the pump of the invention.

Claims

1. A tube to pump interface housing adapted to support a tube, said housing comprising:

a channel to receive and support a tube;

one or more pump interlock elements adapted to facilitate detachable engagement with a peristaltic pump; and

an anti-free-flow mechanism having a disengaged default state which obstructs flow through a tube when said housing is detached from the pump, and wherein said anti-free-flow mechanism is brought into an engaged default state, allowing fluid to flow through the tube, when said housing is attached to the pump.

2. The housing of claim 1, further comprising an override mechanism configured to latch the anti-free-flow mechanism in a non-obstructing state when said housing is detached from the pump allowing fluid to flow through the channel.

3. The housing of claim 1, wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism is a spring biased occlusion plate.

4. The housing of claim 1, wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism obstructs flow in one direction.

5. The housing of claim 1 wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism obstructs flow in two directions.

6. The housing of claim 1 wherein the housing is disposable.

7. The housing of claim 1, further comprising a flexible tube integral with the housing.

8. A system for pumping fluid comprising:

a peristaltic pump;

a flexible tube; and

a housing with;

(1) a channel to receive and support the tube, (2) one or more pump interlock elements adapted to facilitate detachable engagement with the pump, and

(3) an anti-free-flow mechanism having a disengaged default state which obstructs flow through the tube when the housing is detached from the pump, and wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism is brought into an engaged default state, allowing fluid to flow through the channel, when the housing is attached to the pump.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the housing further comprises an override mechanism configured to latch the anti-free-flow mechanism in a non-obstructing state when said housing is detached from the pump allowing fluid to flow through the channel.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism is a spring biased occlusion plate.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism obstructs flow in one direction.

12. The system of claim 8 wherein the anti-free-flow mechanism obstructs flow in two directions.

13. The system of claim 8 wherein the housing is disposable.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the pump is a finger type peristaltic pump.

15. A peristaltic pump comprising:

a pumping mechanism configured to induce flow of a fluid through a flexible tube within a detachable tube-housing, wherein said pumping mechanism includes one or more interlock elements configured to facilitate detachable engagement with the tube-housing and includes a releasing element configured to bring an anti-free-flow mechanism of the tube-housing into an engaged default state which allows fluid to flow through an flexible tube, when the tube-housing is attached to the pumping mechanism.

The peristaltic pump of claim 15, wherein the pumping mechanism is an electrically operable finger-type valve mechanism including fingers configured to oscillate between (1) a retracted position in which the finger does not contact the flexible tube when the tube-housing is attached to the pumping mechanism and (2) an extended position in which the finger at least partially occludes the flexible tube when the tube housing is attached to the pumping mechanism.

17. The peristaltic pump of claim 15, further comprising a flexible tube and a tube-housing.

18. The peristaltic pump of claim 15, wherein the tube-housing is disposable.

19. The peristaltic pump of claim 17, wherein the flexible tube is integral with the tube-housing.

20. The peristaltic pump of claim 17, wherein the flexible tube is integral with a fluid reservoir.
