Abstract

The application concerns sharing content generated within a system for one or more application displays to be displayed on a first computing device of a first user. A second user is sent a message concerning sharing sharable content wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the one or more application displays that were generated for the first user. The message includes an access identifier and in response to the second user accepting the message, the system uses the access identifier to share with the second user said sharable content that was generated for the first user.

Claims

1. A method for sharing content, the method comprising:

generating, for a first user, within a system, content for one or more application displays to be displayed on a first computing device of the first user;

sending, to at least one second computing device of at least one second user, a sharing message to share sharable content;

wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the one or more application displays that were generated for the first user;

wherein the sharing message includes an access identifier;

wherein the at least one second computing device is different from said first computing device of the first user;

in response to receiving an indication of acceptance of the sharing message by the at least one second user, the system using the access identifier to share with the at least one second user said sharable content; and

wherein the step of sending a sharing message is performed in response to input received by the system from the first user.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the input identifies the at least one second user and indicates that the sharable content is to be shared with said at least one second user.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the input identifies which portion of content of the one or more application displays to share with said at least one second user.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the input identifies which of the one or more application displays to share with said at least one second user.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the sharable content includes content from one or more table views.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the sharable content includes content from one or more chart views.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the sharable content includes content from one or more alert views.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the sharable content includes content from one or more of news views.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the sharable content includes content from one or more of message views.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the sharable content contains, at least in part, financial information.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the sharable content contains, at least in part, dynamically updated information.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the sharable content contains, at least in part, real-time information.

13. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

prior to receiving the input, causing display, on the first computing device, of a particular application display of the one or more application displays;

wherein the particular application display includes a shortcut that is associated with the sharable content;

wherein the input includes selection of the shortcut by the first user; and

wherein the selection of the shortcut by the first user causes the system to send the sharing message, to the at least one second computing device, without requiring any indication, from the first user, of to whom to send the sharing message.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein:

the access identifier provides access to the sharable content; and

the shortcut includes the access identifier.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the access identifier provides access to the sharable content; and

the access identifier includes a URL.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the access identifier provides access to the sharable content; and

the method further comprises, in response, at least in part, to the at least one second user using the access identifier, sending said sharable content to the at least one second user.

17. The method of claim 13 wherein the shortcut enables the first user to perform at least one action to cause the system to send the sharing message;

and

the at least one action is a single action.

18. The method of claim 13 wherein the particular application display is a web page.

19. The method of claim 13 wherein:

causing display of the particular application display on the first computing device is performed by a program that is installed on the first computing device;

the program is not a web browser;

the first computing device is a wireless PDA;

the program is downloaded to the first computing device from an application storage that is remote relative to the first computing device; and

the application storage is maintained remote from the system.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein acceptance of the sharing message includes usage of the access identifier by the at least one second user.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein acceptance of the sharing message is performed by using the access identifier.

22. The method of claim 13 wherein:

the particular application display includes a plurality of alerts; and

only a particular alert, of the plurality of alerts, is included in the sharable content.

23. The method of claim 22 wherein:

the particular alert is generated in response to interaction, of a third user, with the system; and

the third user is a different user than both the first user and the at least one second user.

24. The method of claim 23 wherein the third user is a user in whom the first user has expressed an interest.

25. The method of claim 23 wherein the particular alert includes an access identifier associated with the interaction of the third user.

26. The method of claim 2 wherein the input selects a particular user group, from a plurality of user groups, with whom to share the sharable content.

27. The method of claim 13 wherein the shortcut is associated with a user group that includes the at least one second user.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the user group is created by the first user.

42. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the method recited in any one of claims 1, 3, 13, 17, 19, 22-27, 29, 30, 31, 35, 37-39, 41.

43. An apparatus for facilitating operations on data, the apparatus including a plurality of means, wherein the plurality of means includes means for performing each step of the method recited in any one of claims 1, 13, 14, 19, 23, 26, 27, 29, 31, 36, 41.

44. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors;

one or more memories, wherein each memory from the one or more memories is operatively coupled to at least one of the one or more processors;

one or more sequences of instructions that are stored in the one or more memories; and

wherein the one or more sequences of instructions, when performed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to execute the steps of the method recited in any one of claims 1, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 17, 19, 22-27, 29, 30, 31, 35, 37-39, 41.

29. A method for sharing content, the method comprising:

generating, for a first user, within a system, content for one or more application displays to be displayed on a first computing device of the first user;

sending, to at least one second computing device of at least one second user, a sharing message to share sharable content;

wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the one or more application displays that were generated for the first user;

wherein the sharing message includes an access identifier;

wherein the at least one second computing device is different from said first computing device of the first user;

in response to receiving an indication of acceptance of the sharing message by the at least one second user, the system using the access identifier to share with the at least one second user said sharable content;

wherein the step of sending the sharing message is performed in response to selection of a shortcut; and

the selection of the shortcut causes one or more of;

providing to the system at least some parameters required for sharing; and

providing an interface to specify a set of parameters required for sharing.

30. The method of claim 29 further comprising the system providing a mechanism that allows users to create shortcuts and store them in the system for future use.

31. The method of claim 29 wherein the selection of said shortcut is performed in one action.

32. The method of claim 29 wherein the shortcut is a “

shortcut and, upon the selection of the shortcut, a view that is specified by the shortcut is shared with technical support.

33. The method of claim 29, wherein the selection is performed by click of a mouse.

34. The method of claim 29, wherein the selection is performed by voice command.

35. The method of claim 29 wherein the shortcut is a parameterized shortcut that contains at least some of the parameters required for sharing.

36. The method of claim 35 wherein the parameterized shortcut contains one or more parameters that specify what part(s) of an application, to which the one or more application displays belong, to share.

37. The method of claim 36 wherein said shortcut has a parameter that specifies a view to be shared and upon the selection of the shortcut, the specified view is shared with one or more specified second users.

38. The method of claim 36 wherein said shortcut has a parameter that specifies a page to be shared and, upon the selection of the shortcut, the specified page is shared with one or more specified participants.

39. The method of claim 36 wherein said shortcut has a parameter that specifies the application to be shared and, upon the selection of the shortcut, the specified application is shared with one or more specified second users.

40. The method of claim 30 wherein the shortcut was created and stored using the mechanism.

41. The method of claim 29 wherein the system is a financial system.
