Abstract

This disclosure relates to method, device and system for detecting errors in a communication system. A signal is received from a transmitter at a receiver wherein the signal includes a data portion and a result of a hash function. The hash function is computed in part from a transmitter identification code. The receiver determines if the result of the hash function matches both the data portion and the transmitter identification code. The receiver discards the signal if the result of the hash function does not match both the data portion and the transmitter identification code of the transmitter.

Claims

1. A method of compensating for information not received in a communication system, the method comprising:

creating an encoded signal at a transmitter from a source signal using a forward error correction technique wherein the encoded signal is identical to a second encoded signal created at a second transmitter;

splitting the encoded signal into a plurality of units;

spreading a first unit of the plurality of units;

transmitting the first unit of the plurality of units to a first receiver and a second receiver.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted based in part on a predetermined number of units that should be transmitted.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the predetermined number of units is a minimum number of units needed to decode the source signal.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the predetermined number of units is a worst-case number of units needed for a receiver with a worst-case link to decode the source signal.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the predetermined number of units is adjusted based on a feedback signal from the first receiver.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the forward error correction technique uses a plurality of systematic symbols and a plurality of parity symbols.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted based in part on a first received acknowledgement message from the first receiver and a second received acknowledgement message from the second receiver.

The method of claim 7, wherein the first received acknowledgement message is received at a time based on a slot start time and a random timing offset, and further wherein the first received acknowledgement message is received while at least a portion of a second signal is received from a second node.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the forward error correction technique comprises a Reed Solomon encoding technique.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the source signal is a component of a code load.

11. An access point comprising:

a processor configured to

create an encoded signal from a source signal using a forward error correction technique wherein the encoded signal is identical to a second encoded signal created at a second access point;

split the encoded signal into a plurality of units;

a transmitter operatively coupled to the processor and configured to

spread a first unit of the plurality of units;

transmit the first unit of the plurality of units to a first receiver and a second receiver.

12. The access point of claim 11, wherein the processor is further configured to determine whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted based in part on a predetermined number of units that should be transmitted.

13. The access point of claim 12, wherein the predetermined number of units that should be transmitted is a minimum number of units needed to decode the source signal.

14. The access point of claim 11, wherein the processor is further configured to determine whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted based in part on a first received acknowledgement message from the first receiver and a second received acknowledgement message from the second receiver.

15. The access point of claim 11, wherein the forward error correction technique comprises a Reed Solomon encoding technique.

16. A system comprising:

a first node comprising a first receiver;

a second node comprising a second receiver; and

a gateway comprising

a processor configured to

create an encoded signal from a source signal using a forward error correction technique;

split the encoded signal into a plurality of units; and

transmit the plurality of units to a first access point and a second access point;

the first access point comprising

a first transmitter configured to

spread a first unit of the plurality of units; and

transmit the first unit of the plurality of units to the first receiver and the second receiver; and

the second access point comprising

a second transmitter configured to

spread the first unit of the plurality of units; and

transmit the first unit of the plurality of units to the first receiver and the second receiver.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor on the gateway is further configured to determine whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted by the first access point based in part on a predetermined number of units that should be transmitted.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the predetermined number of units that should be transmitted is a minimum number of units needed to decode the source signal.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor on the gateway is further configured to determine whether the first unit of the plurality of units should be transmitted based in part on a first received acknowledgement message from the first node and a second received acknowledgement message from the second node.

20. The system of claim 16, wherein the forward error correction technique comprises a Reed Solomon encoding technique.
