Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing a cloud computing graphical user interface is described. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a request to display an aggregate of cloud computing system resources of different cloud computing systems. The method may also include rendering a visual summary of aggregated cloud computing system resources, wherein the aggregated cloud computing system resources include at least one cloud computing system pool.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving a request to display an aggregate of cloud computing system resources of different cloud computing systems; and

rendering, with a server computer system, a visual summary of aggregated cloud computing system resources, wherein the aggregated cloud computing system resources include at least one cloud computing system pool.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the cloud computing system pool is a joined subset of different cloud computing systems that are accessible from single cloud computing system entry point.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual summary includes a plurality of portlets, each portlet displaying data that summarizes a different cloud computing system resource.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the different cloud computing system resources include at least one of alerts, service quality metrics, billing summary, instances, usage quotas, and pools.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual summary includes a dynamic icon, the dynamic icon generated from current data for a cloud computing system resource to provide a current overview of the cloud computing resource.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

in response to selection of the dynamic icon, rendering a full visual summary of the cloud computing system resource.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

rendering the visual summary with a pivot navigator, wherein the pivot navigator includes a first and a second user selectable area, the first user selectable area representing different cloud computing system resources and the second user selectable area representing visual summary types.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

in response to a user selection of the first and second user selectable areas, rendering an updated visual summary to display the selected cloud computing resource using the selected visual summary types.

9. A computer readable storage medium that provides instructions, which when executed on a processing system cause the processing system to perform a method comprising:

receiving a request to display an aggregate of cloud computing system resources of different cloud computing systems; and

rendering a visual summary of aggregated cloud computing system resources, wherein the aggregated cloud computing system resources include at least one cloud computing system pool.

10. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the cloud computing system pool is a joined subset of different cloud computing systems that are accessible from single cloud computing system entry point.

11. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the visual summary includes a plurality of portlets, each portlet displaying data that summarizes a different cloud computing system resource.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 11 wherein the different cloud computing system resources include at least one of alerts, service quality metrics, billing summary, instances, usage quotas, and pools.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the visual summary includes a dynamic icon, the dynamic icon generated from current data for a cloud computing system resource to provide a current overview of the cloud computing resource.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 13, further comprising:

in response to selection of the dynamic icon, rendering a full visual summary of the cloud computing system resource.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, further comprising:

rendering the visual summary with a pivot navigator, wherein the pivot navigator includes a first and a second user selectable area, the first user selectable area representing different cloud computing system resources and the second user selectable area representing visual summary types.

16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 15, further comprising:

in response to a user selection of the first and second user selectable areas, rendering an updated visual summary to display the selected cloud computing resource using the selected visual summary types.

17. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processing device coupled with the memory to execute an interface presenter to

receive a request to display an aggregate of cloud computing system resources of different cloud computing systems, and

render a visual summary of aggregated cloud computing system resources, wherein the aggregated cloud computing system resources include at least one cloud computing system pool.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the cloud computing system pool is a joined subset of different cloud computing systems that are accessible from single cloud computing system entry point.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the visual summary includes a plurality of portlets, each portlet displaying data that summarizes a different cloud computing system resource.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the visual summary includes a dynamic icon, the dynamic icon generated from current data for a cloud computing system resource to provide a current overview of the cloud computing resource.
