Abstract

A UE, in an idle mode, receives pilot signals and synchronization signals from a serving cell and neighbor cells comprising neighbor cells listed and/or unlisted in a neighboring cell list. The UE validates each of the serving cell, the listed neighbor cells and the unlisted neighbor cells from the received signals. The UE performs cell measurement on the listed cells as well as the unlisted cells for multipath profiles and associated power levels. In instances where number of attempts of the cell measurements on the unlisted cells exceeds a threshold value, the UE may validate presence of the unlisted cells. The best available cell is selected from the listed cells and the unlisted for the UE to camp on. I/Q samples of the received signals are stored while measuring or monitoring the cells. The stored I/Q samples may be utilized to carry out baseband procedures through offline processing.

Claims

1. A method for communication, the method comprising:

in a user equipment that is operating in an idle mode;

receiving signals from a serving cell and a plurality of neighbor cells, wherein said plurality of neighbor cells comprise one or more neighbor cells that are listed in a received neighboring cell list, and one or more neighbor cells that are not listed in said received neighboring cell list; and

validating each of said serving cell, said one or more listed neighbor cells and said one or more unlisted neighbor cells based on said received signals.

2. The method according to claim 1, comprising measuring signal strength of said received signals for multipath profiles and associated power levels for said serving cell, said one or more listed neighbor cells and said one or more unlisted cells.

3. The method according to claim 2, comprising if number of attempts of said signal strength measurements for said one or more unlisted cells is greater than a threshold value, validating said one or more unlisted cells.

4. The method according to claim 2, comprising selecting one of said one or more listed cells and said one or more unlisted cells based on said signal strength measurements.

5. The method according to claim 4, comprising camping on said selected cell.

6. The method according to claim 2, comprising configuring said user equipment for said receiving based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said serving cell.

7. The method according to claim 2, comprising cancelling interference, from said received signals prior to said validation, based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said one or more unlisted cells.

8. The method according to claim 2, comprising storing samples of said received signals during said measuring.

9. The method according to claim 8, comprising cancelling interference, from said stored samples, based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said one or more unlisted cells

10. The method according to claim 9, comprising utilizing said stored samples for said validation subsequent to said interference cancellation.

11. A system for communication, the system comprising:

one or more processors and/or circuits for use in a user equipment that operates in an idle mode, said one or more processors and/or circuits being operable to, during said idle mode;

receive signals from a serving cell and a plurality of neighbor cells, wherein said plurality of neighbor cells comprise one or more neighbor cells that are listed in a received neighboring cell list, and one or more neighbor cells that are not listed in said received neighboring cell list; and

validate each of said serving cell, said one or more listed neighbor cells and said one or more unlisted neighbor cells based on said received signals.

The system according to claim 11, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to measure signal strength of said received signals for multipath profiles and associated power levels for said serving cell, said one or more listed neighbor cells and said one or more unlisted cells.

13. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to validate said one or more unlisted cells if number of attempts of said signal strength measurements for said one or more unlisted cells is greater than a threshold value.

14. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to select one of said one or more listed cells and said one or more unlisted cells based on said signal strength measurements.

15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to camp on said selected cell.

16. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to configure said user equipment for said receiving based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said serving cell.

17. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to cancel interference, from said received signals prior to said identification, based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said one or more unlisted cells.

18. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to store samples of said received signals during said measuring.

19. The system according to claim 18, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to cancel interference, from said stored samples, based on said measured multipath profiles and associated power levels for said one or more unlisted cells.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to utilize said stored samples for said validation subsequent to said interference cancellation.
