Abstract

Cognitive interference management in Cellular wireless network with relays and micro/pico/femto cells operated in distributed scheduling mode. A cellular system may use RS to improve capacity or for coverage extension. A RS relays the signals between BS 104 and MS by using wireless links between BS-RS and RS-MS during both downlink and uplink transmissions. Embodiments herein disclose a mechanism to explicitly indicate to the MS whether the MAC management messages sent by the BS to the MS are to inform it to perform scanning for interference measurement. Also, disclosed herein is a mechanism to explicitly indicate to the BS whether the message sent by the MS is related to interference measurement.

175. A method for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said method comprising:

a User Equipment (UE) performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

a serving said BS classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE;

a scheduler assigning a set of resources to each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS to be used in an access link based on said classification of said UE and controls said transmit power of said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS using a control message, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS; and

applying dynamic power control over wide band pilots of BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS based on said interference measurement from said UE, wherein said power control on wide band pilots is independent of said power control employed for the data blocks.

176. The method as claimed in claim 175, wherein user data is repeated in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference and wherein said data can be repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

177. The method as claimed in claim 175, wherein said UE detects presence of said RS or said MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI and/or Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or a function of RSSI/CINR to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and/or said CINR and/or said function of said RSSI/CINR are measured from said preamble for each said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

178. The method as claimed in claim 175, wherein said control message from said serving BS informs said RS about said UE experiencing non negligible interference from said RS.

179. A method for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said method comprising:

a serving BS assigning a pseudo preamble to said T-RS to enable a User Equipment (UE) to identify said T-RS;

said UE performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS and PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

a serving said BS classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, T-RS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE; and

a scheduler assigning a set of resources to each of said BS, RS, T-RS, FBS, PBS and MBS to be used in an access link based on said classification of said UE, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, T-RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

180. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein ranging codes are reserved for said T-RS for ranging of said UE in said access link.

181. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein control message informs said RS or T-RS whether to relay control messages to said UE from said BS directly to said UE or through said T-RS.

182. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said BS informs said UE about relevant timing advances/delays that may occur in said access link due to processing at said T-RS.

183. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein user data is repeated in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference and/or due to same MCS assignment for both access and backhaul link, wherein said data can be repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

184. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said method further comprises of

said T-RS being assigned a unique identifier on being registered successfully;

and

said T-RS deriving said preamble from said unique identifier.

185. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said UE detects presence of said T-RS or said RS, MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI, and/or said Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or said function of CINR/RSSI to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and said CINR are measured from said preamble and/or midamble and/or pilots for each said BS/RS/T-RS/MBS/FBS/PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

186. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said RS forwards said data of said relay UE and/or said T-RS selectively forwards user data to UE as directed by said serving BS.

187. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said RS or said serving BS instructs said relay UE to advance/delay transmission based on a timing offset measured from said ranging preamble/sounding channel.

188. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said BS controls said transmit power of said T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS using a control message.

189. The method as claimed in claim 179, wherein said control message informs said RS about said UE experiencing non negligible interference from said RS.

190. A method for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said method comprising:

a User Equipment (UE) performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

said serving BS classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE;

said serving BS sending to each of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS a list of victim UEs or RS derives its list of its victim UEs, from UL signaling; and

each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS performing resource allocation for said UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

191. The method as claimed in claim 190, wherein said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS reads relevant resource allocation information messages of said victim UEs and uses said information to performing resource allocation for other associated said UEs of BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

192. The method as claimed in claim 190, wherein user data is repeated in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference, wherein said data is repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

193. The method as claimed in claim 190, wherein said UE detects presence of said RS or said MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI and/or said Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or said function of RSSI/CINR to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and said CINR are measured from said preamble for each said BS/RS/MBS/FBS/PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

194. The method as claimed in claim 193, wherein said control message informs said RS about said UE experiencing non negligible interference from said RS.

195. The method as claimed in claim 193, wherein said control message from said serving BS forwards said identifiers and resource allocation information of victim UEs to said MBS, PBS and FBS through a backhaul link or over the air interface.

196. A method to enable dynamic resource allocation for interference management in an access link of one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) using multiple information elements in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, said method comprising using at least one of said multiple information elements wherein:

one of said multiple information element is used to request any group of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resources to be used in said access link;

one of said multiple information element is used to request for resource allocation information of any group of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS;

one of said multiple information element is used to convey resource allocation information of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS to requesting said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS; and

one of said multiple information element is used by said serving BS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resource to be used by said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS in said access link.

197. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein resource allocation information of victim UEs is shared between said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

198. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing said information element containing said resource allocation information of victim UEs is forwarded to said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS through a backhaul link or over the air.

199. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein message containing said information elements is sent from said BS or an entity (resource controller) in said network indicating said set of resources said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS can use in said access link.

200. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said set of resources is function of various metrics, wherein said metrics comprise at least one of:

system load;

interference measurement;

best band constraints;

Quality of Service (QoS) requirements;

persistent scheduling; and

traffic distribution for said RS and said BS.

201. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said information elements have at least one of:

RS/T-RS/BS/PBS/FBS/MBS Unique Identifier;

Number of non-contiguous allocations;

Type of Allocation field;

Offset in units of the minimum possible resource unit in frequency;

Offset in units of the minimum possible resource unit in time;

The amount by which the transmit power has to be increased or decreased;

Duration for which the resource allocation is valid;

Number of units of the minimum possible resource unit in time;

Number of units of the minimum possible resource unit in frequency;

Code sequence to be used; and

Antenna transmission mode.

202. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing said information elements may contain multiple said information elements, wherein said information elements comprise multiple allocations for said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

203. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing said information elements are used to bar resources from being used by said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

204. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing one of said information element is signaled by said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS to a serving BS to request allocation and/or addition and/or subtraction and/or de-allocation of resources for its access link.

205. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing one of said information element is signaled by BS, RS, MBS, PBS, FBS to another BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS or its serving BS to request barring or de-allocation of resources for their access link.

206. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS requests for additional resources using control messages.

207. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing one of said information element is used to request for information about resources allocated to said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

208. The method as claimed in claim 196, wherein said message containing one of said information element is used for at least one of:

performing contiguous/non-contiguous resource allocations and be able to add/subtract resources to/from said allocated resources;

indicating to said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS whether to perform power control in the allocated resources; and

enabling said BSs to share resource allocation information of RS, T-RS and said MBS, PBS and FBS and victim UE with each other.

209. A method for modifying control messages used for handover related measurements/management for interference measurement, said method comprising:

addition of an additional bit in said control message to distinguish between handover management and measurements requested/reported/solicited for interference management; and

having a timer to assign appropriate priorities to handover or interference measurement.

210. The method as claimed in claim 209 wherein said timer can be in a User Equipment (UE), a Base Station (BS), a core network, in a Relay Station (RS) or Pico Base station (PBS) or a Femto Base Station (FBS).

211. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said UE sends a handover related message to said serving BS asking said serving BS a permission to perform interference measurements by adding said extra one bit.

212. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said serving BS checks said additional bit, on receiving said MAC management message, to determine if said message is said interference measurement message.

213. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said UE sends said handover related message, containing interference measurement report to said serving BS, and said additional one bit indicates interference measurement report and not handover related measurement report.

214. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said UE checks said additional bit to determine if message is to request it to perform interference measurement, on receiving said MAC management message from serving BS.

215. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said timer is activated at said serving BS when said handover related measurement request is sent to said UE;

wherein while said timer is active, said serving BS does not send a new said interference related measurement request to the said UE.

216. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said timer is de-activated at said serving BS when said handover related measurement report is received by said serving BS.

217. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said timer is activated at said UE when said handover related measurement request is received at said UE from said serving BS, wherein while said timer is active, said UE does not respond to any said interference related measurement requests from said serving BS.

218. The method as claimed in claim 209, wherein said timer is de-activated at said UE when said handover related measurement report is sent by said UE.

219. A method for modifying any control message having a list of Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) preambles/IDs for interference measurement, said method comprising:

addition of an extra bit in said message from a User Equipment (UE) to serving said BS which have said list of unique identifiers of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS , wherein said extra bit indicates that said message is used for enabling interference measurement; and

addition of said extra bit in said control message having said list of unique identifiers of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS from a serving said BS to said UE to ask said UE to perform measurements on said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

220. The method as claimed in claim 219, wherein said BS checks said additional bit to determine if message is said interference measurement message, on receiving said MAC management message.

221. A method for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Station (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS) and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said method comprising:

a User Equipment (UE) performs interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a said serving BS; and

dynamic power control is applied over wide band pilots of BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS based on said interference measurement from said UE, wherein said power control on wide band pilots is independent of said power control employed for the data blocks.

222. The method as claimed in claim 221, wherein said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS uses at least one of:

a mix of wide band pilots with power control and said dedicated pilots; and

said wide band pilots with power control on said wide band pilots.

223. The method as claimed in claim 221, wherein said power control of said wide band pilots is a function of at least one of:

a function of interference caused by said wide band pilots to said victim UE; and

a function of degradation in channel estimation for a UE.

224. The method as claimed in claim 221, wherein said BS controls said transmit power of said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS, T-RS using a control message.

225. A method to enable dynamic distributed resource allocation for interference management for the access link of one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) in a heterogeneous/homogeneous communication network, said method comprising:

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS requesting for resource allocation information from one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS;

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS performing and/or changes own resource allocation for an access link using said resource allocation information about interfering said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS;

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS conveying said resource allocation information to other said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS on request or in an unsolicited fashion; and

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS requesting one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resource to be used in said access link to mitigate interference caused by said resources to said access link.

226. The method as claimed in claim 225, wherein said serving BS can indicate to each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS said resources that can/cannot be used by said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

227. The method as claimed in claim 225, wherein said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS requests for said resource allocation information from one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS, at network entry.

228. The method as claimed in claim 225, wherein said serving BS shares said resource allocation information of said RS, BS, MBS, FBS, PBS and victim said UEs with other said BS in said communication networks.

229. The method as claimed in claim 225, wherein said RS and said MBS, PBS and FBS requests for additional resources using control messages.

230. A system for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said system comprising:

a User Equipment (UE) configured for performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

a serving said BS configured for classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE; and

a scheduler comprising at least one means configured for

assigning a set of resources to each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS to be used in an access link based on said classification of said UE and controlling said transmit power of said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS using a control message, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS; and

applying dynamic power control over wide band pilots of BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS based on said interference measurement from said UE, wherein said power control on wide band pilots is independent of said power control employed for the data blocks.

231. The system as claimed in claim 230, wherein said system is configured to repeat user data in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference, and wherein said data can be repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

232. The system as claimed in claim 230, wherein said UE is configured to detect presence of said RS or said MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI and/or Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or a function of RSSI/CINR to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and/or said CINR and/or said function of said RSSI/CINR are measured from said preamble for each said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

233. A system for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations(RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said system comprising:

a serving BS configured for assigning a pseudo preamble to said T-RS to enable a User Equipment (UE) to identify said T-RS;

said UE configured for performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS and PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

a serving said BS configured for classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, T-RS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE; and

a scheduler configured for assigning a set of resources to each of said BS, RS, T-RS, FBS, PBS and MBS to be used in an access link based on said classification of said UE, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, T-RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

234. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said BS is configured for informing said UE about relevant timing advances/delays that may occur in said access link due to processing at said T-RS.

The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said system is configured for repeating user data in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference and/or due to same MCS assignment for both access and backhaul link, wherein said data can be repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

236. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said system further comprises of said scheduler adapted for:

assigning said T-RS a unique identifier on being registered successfully; and

said T-RS deriving a said preamble from said unique identifier.

237. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said UE is configured for detecting presence of said T-RS or said RS, MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI, and/or said Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or said function of CINR/RSSI to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and said CINR are measured from said preamble and/or midamble and/or pilots for each said BS/RS/T-RS/MBS/FBS/PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

238. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said RS is configured for forwarding said data of said relay UE and/or said T-RS selectively forwards user data to UE as directed by said serving BS.

239. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said RS or said serving BS is configured for instructing said relay UE to advance/delay transmission based on a timing offset measured from said ranging preamble/sounding channel.

240. The system as claimed in claim 233, wherein said BS is configured for controlling said transmit power of said T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS using a control message.

241. A system for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said system comprising:

a User Equipment (UE) configured for performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a serving said BS;

said serving BS configured for classifying each said UE as either a victim UE of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS or as a safe UE based on said measurement received from said UE;

said serving BS configured for sending to each of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS a list of victim UEs or RS derives its list of its victim UEs, from UL signaling; and

each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS configured for performing resource allocation for said UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS, wherein said set of resources are partially or completely orthogonal to said resources in time and/or frequency and/or code and/or space utilized by said victim UEs of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

242. The system as claimed in claim 241, wherein said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS is configured for reading relevant resource allocation information messages of said victim UEs and uses said information to performing resource allocation for other associated said UEs of BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

243. The system as claimed in claim 241, wherein said system is configured for repeating user data in original form or in modified form in a link between said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and particular said UEs, wherein said data repetition is to reduce any possible loss in performance in said access link due to unavailability of preferred band due to orthogonalization of resources, and/or power control in said access link to reduce said interference, wherein said data is repeated in correlated and/or uncorrelated blocks of time and/or frequency and/or space and/or code.

244. The system as claimed in claim 241, wherein said UE is configured for detecting presence of said RS or said MBS, PBS and FBS in vicinity from said preamble and said UE reports said unique identifier, said RSSI and/or said Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (CINR) and/or said function of RSSI/CINR to said BS using a control message, wherein said Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and said CINR are measured from said preamble for each said BS/RS/MBS/FBS/PBS in the group to be scanned by the said UE, specified by the said serving BS.

245. A system to enable dynamic resource allocation for interference management in an access link of one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) using multiple information elements in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, said system using at least one of said multiple information elements wherein:

one of the said multiple information elements is configured for requesting any group of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resources to be used in said access link;

one of the said multiple information elements is configured for requesting for resource allocation information of any group of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS;

one of the said multiple information elements is configured for conveying resource allocation information of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS to requesting said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS; and

one of the said multiple information elements is configured for use by said serving BS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resource to be used by said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS in said access link.

246. The system as claimed in claim 245, wherein said system is configured for forwarding said message containing said information element and said resource allocation information of the victim UEs to said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS through a backhaul link or over the air.

247. The system as claimed in claim 245, wherein said system is configured for sending message containing said information elements from said BS or an entity (resource controller) in said network indicating said set of resources said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS can use in said access link.

248. The system as claimed in claim 245, wherein said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS is configured for signaling said message containing one of said information elements to a serving BS to request allocation and/or addition and/or subtraction and/or de-allocation of resources for its access link.

249. The system as claimed in claim 245, wherein said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS is configured for signaling said message containing one of said information elements is signaled to another BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS or its serving BS to request barring or de-allocation of resources for their access link.

250. The system as claimed in claim 245, wherein said RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS is configured for requesting additional resources using control messages.

251. A system for modifying control messages used for handover related measurements/management for interference measurement, said system comprising at least one means configured for:

addition of an additional bit in said control message to distinguish between handover management and measurements requested/reported/solicited for interference management; and

having a timer to assign appropriate priorities to handover-related measurement or interference measurement.

252. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said timer can be in a User Equipment (UE), a Base Station (BS), a core network, in a Relay Station (RS) or Pico Base station (PBS) or a Femto Base Station (FBS).

253. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said UE is configured for sending a handover related message to said serving BS asking said serving BS permission to perform interference measurements by adding said extra one bit.

254. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said serving BS is configured for checking said additional bit, on receiving said MAC management message, to determine if said message is said interference measurement message.

255. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said UE is configured for sending said handover related message, containing interference measurement report to said serving BS, and said additional one bit indicates interference measurement report and not handover-related measurement report.

256. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said UE is configured for checking said additional bit to determine if message is to request it to perform interference measurement, on receiving said MAC management message from serving BS.

257. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein the said timer is configured for being activated at said serving BS when said handover -related measurement request is sent to said UE;

wherein while said timer is active, said serving BS does not send a new said interference related measurement request to the said UE.

258. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said timer is configured for being de-activated at said serving BS when said handover-related measurement report is received by said serving BS.

259. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said timer is configured for being activated at said UE when said handover-related measurement request is received at said UE from said serving BS, wherein while said timer is active, said UE does not respond to any said interference related measurement requests from said serving BS.

260. The system as claimed in claim 251, wherein said timer is configured for being de-activated at said UE when said handover-related measurement report is sent by said UE.

261. A system for modifying any control message having a list of Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Stations (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) preambles/IDs for interference measurement, said system comprising of at least one means configured for:

addition of an extra bit in said message from a User Equipment (UE) to serving said BS which have said list of unique identifiers of said BS, RS, T-RS, MBS, FBS, PBS , wherein said extra bit indicates that said message is used for enabling interference measurement; and

addition of said extra bit in said control message having said list of unique identifiers of said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS from a serving said BS to said UE to ask said UE to perform measurements on said BS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS.

262. The system as claimed in claim 261, wherein said BS is configured for checking said additional bit to determine if message is said interference measurement message, on receiving said MAC management message.

263. A system for interference management in heterogeneous/homogeneous communication networks, wherein said communication networks have one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Transparent Relay Station (T-RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS) and Micro Base Stations (MBS), said system comprising of:

a User Equipment (UE) configured for performing interference measurement for a specific group of said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS and said UE sends said interference measurement to a said serving BS; and

dynamic power control configured for applying over wide band pilots of BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS based on said interference measurement from said UE, wherein said power control on wide band pilots is independent of said power control employed for the data blocks.

264. The system as claimed in claim 263, wherein said BS, T-RS, RS, MBS, FBS, PBS is configured for using at least one of:

a mix of said wide band pilots with power control and dedicated pilots; and

said wide band pilots with power control on said wide band pilots.

265. The system as claimed in claim 263, wherein said BS is configured for controlling said transmit power of said RS, MBS, FBS, PBS, T-RS using a control message.

266. A system to enable dynamic distributed resource allocation for interference management for the access link of one or more Base Stations (BS), Relay Stations (RS), Femto Base Stations (FBS), Pico Base Stations (PBS), and Micro Base Stations (MBS) in a heterogeneous/homogeneous communication network, said system comprising of:

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS configured for requesting resource allocation information from one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS;

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS configured for performing and/or changing own resource allocation for an access link using said resource allocation information about interfering said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS;

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS configured for conveying said resource allocation information to other said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS on request or in an unsolicited fashion; and

said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS configured for requesting one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS to allocate, bar, add or subtract resource to be used in said access link to mitigate interference caused by said resources to said access link.

267. The system as claimed in claim 266, wherein said serving BS is configured for indicating to each of said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS said resources that can/cannot be used by said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS.

268. The system as claimed in claim 266, wherein said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS is configured for requesting for said resource allocation information from one or more said RS, BS, FBS, PBS and MBS, at network entry.

269. The system as claimed in claim 266, wherein said serving BS is configured for sharing said resource allocation information of said RS, BS, MBS, FBS, PBS and victim said UEs with other said BS in said communication networks.

270. The system as claimed in claim 266, wherein said RS and said MBS, PBS and FBS is configured for requesting for additional resources using control messages.
