1. A patient support surface having a head end and a foot end, comprising:
- a cover defining an enclosed interior region, the enclosed interior region comprising;
a support layer, andat least one elevation device comprising at least one inflatable compartment having a first portion, a second portion spaced from the first portion, and an airflow barrier defined in the compartment and located approximately half way between the first and second portions, the air flow barrier being arranged to permit one of the first and second portions to be inflated while the other of the first and second portions is at least partially deflated to provide angular elevation of the compartment relative to the horizontal, and to permit the first and second portions to be inflated at substantially the same time to provide vertical elevation.
