Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer readable medium for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website. In one example, information including information relating to a user is first received via the communication platform. The received information is then automatically analyzed to estimate a preferred language in which the user likely uses to view content from the website. A selector is displayed with an available selection of a language that most closely matches the estimated preferred language to allow the user to specify the user'"'"'s preferred language with respect to the website. The user'"'"'s preferred language is stored, and the user is redirected to the website in the user'"'"'s preferred language.

Claims

1. A method implemented on a computer having at least one processor, storage, and communication platform for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website, comprising the steps of:

receiving, via the communication platform, information including information relating to a user;

analyzing automatically the received information to estimate a preferred language in which the user likely uses to view content from the website;

displaying a selector, with an available selection of a language that most closely matches the estimated preferred language, to allow the user to specify the user'"'"'s preferred language with respect to the website;

storing the user'"'"'s preferred language; and

redirecting the user to the website in the user'"'"'s preferred language.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the information relating to the user includes at least one of a language the user agent prefers, a default language of the user agent, the user'"'"'s IP address, the user'"'"'s geo-location information, a cookie associated with the user, the user'"'"'s demographic information, and information reflecting the user'"'"'s online activities.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the information received includes at least one of the URL of the web page and a referrer URL.

4. A method implemented on a computer having at least one processor, storage, and communication platform for facilitating selection of a preferred language associated with a website, comprising the steps of:

receiving, via the communication platform, information including information relating to a user viewing a web page in a first language;

analyzing the received information to determine a second language that the user likely prefers to view the web page in;

if the second language differs from the first language,

displaying a selector, with an available selection of a language that most closely matches the second language, to allow the user to specify the user'"'"'s preferred language with respect to the website;

storing the specified user'"'"'s preferred language; and

redirecting the user to the web page in the specified user'"'"'s preferred language.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the information relating to the user is received via an HTTP request.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the information received includes at least one of:

the URL of the web page,

the referrer URL,

the user agent “

Accept-language”

header,

the user agent language,

the user'"'"'s IP address,

the user'"'"'s demographic information,

the user'"'"'s geo-location information, and

a cookie.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the analysis to determine the second language is based on a predefined set of information involving at least one of:

one or more domain names,

at least one language,

one or more countries and their corresponding currencies,

a set of referrer domains associated with the second language,

a set of referrer top level domains associated with the second language,

a set of referrer subdomains associated with the second language,

one or more sets of referrer keywords or parameters associated with the second language,

a set of geographical areas associated with the second language, and

a set of affinity languages associated with the second language.
