Abstract

Provided is a method of wireless communication which includes selecting a codebook from a plurality of codebooks in accordance with an antenna characteristic, and transmitting an indication of the selected codebook. Each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics. In some designs, channel state information is received from a user equipment. The channel state information may be used to determine downlink scheduling and/or precoding. In some designs, the channel state information may include feedback elements associated with different subband granularity. The feedback elements may also indicate a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors and/or a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

selecting a codebook from a plurality of codebooks in accordance with an antenna characteristic, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics; and

transmitting an indication of the selected codebook.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the antenna characteristic includes an antenna configuration.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting the indication of the selected codebook further includes transmitting the indication of the selected codebook to a user equipment (UE);

the method further including receiving channel state information feedback from the UE.

4. The method of claim 3, further including one of:

determining downlink scheduling based on the channel state information feedback; and

downlink precoding based on the channel state information feedback.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the channel state information feedback includes a plurality of feedback information elements.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein at least two of the plurality of feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

1], wherein Ntx includes a total number of the transmit antennas, and m corresponds to the at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors.

10. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means selecting a codebook from a plurality of codebooks in accordance with an antenna characteristic, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics; and

means for transmitting an indication of the selected codebook.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the antenna characteristic includes an antenna configuration.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the means for transmitting the indication of the selected codebook further includes means for transmitting the indication of the selected codebook to a user equipment (UE);

the apparatus further including means for receiving channel state information feedback from the UE.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, further including one of:

means for determining downlink scheduling based on the channel state information feedback; and

means for determining downlink precoding based on the channel state information feedback.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the channel state information feedback includes a plurality of feedback information elements.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein at least two of the plurality of feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

1], wherein Ntx includes a total number of the transmit antennas, and m corresponds to the at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements.

18. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors.

19. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to select a codebook from a plurality of codebooks in accordance with an antenna characteristic, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics, and to transmit an indication of the selected codebook; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the antenna characteristic includes an antenna configuration.

21. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

instructions for causing at least one processor to select a codebook from a plurality of codebooks in accordance with an antenna characteristic, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics; and

instructions for causing the at least one processor to transmit an indication of the selected codebook.

22. The computer program product of claim 21, wherein the antenna characteristic includes an antenna configuration.

23. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics;

determining channel state information feedback using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks; and

transmitting the channel state information feedback.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the channel state information feedback includes a plurality of feedback information elements.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein at least two of the plurality of feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

27. The method of claim 25, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

1], wherein Ntx includes a total number of the transmit antennas, and m corresponds to the at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements.

29. The method of claim 25, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors.

30. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics;

means for determining channel state information feedback using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks; and

means for transmitting the channel state information feedback.

31. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

32. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the channel state information feedback includes a plurality of feedback information elements.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein at least two of the plurality of feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

34. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

35. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

37. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to receive an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics, to determine channel state information feedback using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks, and to transmit the channel state information feedback; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

38. The apparatus of claim 37, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

39. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

instructions for causing at least one processor to receive an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics;

instructions for causing the at least one processor to determine channel state information feedback using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks; and

instructions for causing the at least one processor to transmit the channel state information feedback.

40. The computer program product of claim 39, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

41. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a plurality of channel phase feedback information elements from a user equipment, wherein at least two of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

42. The method of claim 41, further including one of:

determining downlink scheduling based on at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements; and

determining downlink precoding based on at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements.

43. The method of claim 41, wherein at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

44. The method of claim 43, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

1], wherein Ntx includes a total number of the transmit antennas, and m corresponds to the at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements.

45. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a plurality of channel phase feedback information elements from a user equipment, wherein at least two of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity.

46. The apparatus of claim 45, further including one of:

means for determining downlink scheduling based on at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements; and

means for determining downlink precoding based on at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements.

47. The apparatus of claim 45, wherein at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

48. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

49. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

determining a plurality of channel phase feedback information elements using a codebook of the plurality of codebooks, wherein at least two of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity; and

transmitting the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements to a base station.

50. The method of claim 49, wherein at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

51. The method of claim 50, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

1], wherein Ntx includes a total number of the transmit antennas, and m corresponds to the at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements.

52. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for determining a plurality of channel phase feedback information elements using a codebook of the plurality of codebooks, wherein at least two of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements are associated with a different subband granularity; and

means for transmitting the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements to a base station.

53. The apparatus of claim 52, wherein at least one of the plurality of channel phase feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

54. The apparatus of claim 53, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

55. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a plurality of feedback information elements from a user equipment, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors.

56. The method of claim 55, further including one of:

determining downlink scheduling based on at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements; and

determining downlink precoding based on at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements.

57. The method of claim 55, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

58. The method of claim 57, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

59. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a plurality of feedback information elements from a user equipment, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors.

60. The apparatus of claim 59, further including one of:

means for determining downlink scheduling based on at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements; and

means for determining downlink precoding based on at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements.

61. The apparatus of claim 59, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

62. The apparatus of claim 61, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

63. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks from a base station, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics;

determining a plurality of feedback information elements using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors; and

transmitting the plurality of feedback information elements to the base station.

64. The method of claim 63, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

65. The method of claim 63, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.

66. The method of claim 65, wherein a first group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [0, 1, . . . , m], and a second group of the two groups of transmit antennas includes [m+1, m+2, . . . Ntx−

67. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving an indication of a codebook of a plurality of codebooks from a base station, wherein each of the plurality of codebooks is associated with one of a plurality of antenna characteristics;

means for determining a plurality of feedback information elements using the codebook of the plurality of codebooks, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a selection of a subset of precoder column vectors; and

means for transmitting the plurality of feedback information elements to the base station.

68. The apparatus of claim 67, wherein the antenna characteristics include an antenna configuration.

69. The apparatus of claim 67, wherein at least one of the plurality of feedback information elements indicates a phase offset between two groups of transmit antennas.
