Abstract

In an embodiment, a radio communication device may be provided. The radio communication device may include a first receiver configured to receive from a first cell first data representing a content encoded using a first codec; a second receiver configured to receive from a second cell second data representing the content encoded using a second codec; and a combiner configured to combine the first data and the second data.

Claims

1. A radio communication device, comprising:

a first receiver configured to receive from a first cell first data representing a content encoded using a first codec;

a second receiver configured to receive from a second cell second data representing the content encoded using a second codec;

a combiner configured to combine the first data and the second data.

2. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

a decoder configured to decode the combined data;

a reception discontinuation determiner configured to determine whether the first receiver stops receiving the first data and to determine whether the second receiver stops receiving the second data;

wherein the decoder is further configured to decode the first data when the reception discontinuation determiner determines that the second receiver stops receiving the second data, and

wherein the decoder is further configured to decode the second data when the reception discontinuation determiner determines that the first receiver stops receiving the first data.

3. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

a further receiver configured to receive from a further cell further data representing the content encoded using a further codec.

4. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

a locator configured to determine the position of the radio communication device.

5. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

an available cell determiner configured to determine, whether a predetermined cell is available for the radio communication device.

6. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

a data requester configured to request transmission of further data representing the content encoded using a further codec from a further cell from an information provider.

7. The radio communication device of claim 1, further comprising:

a quality of service determiner configured to determine a required quality of service of the content for the radio communication device.

8. An information provider, comprising:

a first data generator configured to generate first data from a content using a first codec;

a second data generator configured to generate second data from the content using a second codec;

a first transmitter configured to transmit using a first cell the first data; and

a second transmitter configured to transmit using a second cell the second data.

9. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

an available cell determiner configured to determine a plurality of cells that is available for transmitting the first data and the second data to a radio communication device; and

a cell selector configured to select the first cell and the second cell from the plurality of cells based on a pre-determined criterion.

10. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

a further data generator configured to generate further data from the content encoded using a further codec; and

a further transmitter configured to transmit using a further cell the further data.

11. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

a position information receiver configured to receive information representing a position of a radio communication device.

12. The information provider of claim 11, further comprising:

an available cell information determiner configured to determine whether a pre-determined cell is available for the radio communication device based on the position information received by the position information receiver.

13. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

an available cell information receiver configured to receive information indicating whether a pre-determined cell is available for a radio communication device.

14. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

a data request receiver configured to receive from a radio communication device a request for transmission of further data representing the content encoded using a further codec using a further cell.

15. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

a quality of service information receiver configured to receive information representing the required quality of service of the content for a radio communication device.

16. The information provider of claim 8, further comprising:

a bearer availability determiner configured to determine whether a bearer for a pre-determined cell is available.

17. A method for controlling a radio communication device, the method comprising:

receiving from a first cell first data representing a content encoded using a first codec;

receiving from a second cell second data representing the content encoded using a second codec;

combining the first data and the second data.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

determining the position of the radio communication device.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

determining, whether a predetermined cell is available for the radio communication device.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

requesting transmission of further data representing the content encoded using a further codec from a further cell from an information provider.

21. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

determining a required quality of service of the content for the radio communication device.

22. A method for controlling an information provider, comprising:

generating first data from a content using a first codec;

generating second data from the content using a second codec;

transmitting using a first cell the first data; and

transmitting using a second cell the second data.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

receiving information representing a position of a radio communication device.

24. The method of claim 23, further comprising:

determining whether a pre-determined cell is available for the radio communication device based on the received position information.

25. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

receiving information indicating whether a pre-determined cell is available for a radio communication device.

26. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

receiving from a radio communication device a request for transmission of further data representing the content encoded using a further codec using a further cell.

27. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

receiving information representing the required quality of service of the content for a radio communication device.

28. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

determining whether a bearer for a pre-determined cell is available.

29. An information provider, comprising:

a storage configured to store a plurality of files, each file representing the same content; and

a plurality of transmitters configured to transmit the plurality of files, each file using one of a plurality of radio access technologies.

30. A radio communication device, comprising:

a receiver having a first receiver sub component configured to receive from a first cell first data representing a content encoded using a first codec and a second receiver sub component configured to receive from a second cell second data representing the content encoded using a second codec; and

a combiner configured to combine the first data and the second data.

31. The radio communication device of claim 30, further comprising:

a decoder configured to decode the combined data;

a reception discontinuation determiner configured to determine whether the first receiver sub component stops receiving the first data and to determine whether the second receiver sub component stops receiving the second data;

wherein the decoder is further configured to decode the first data when the reception discontinuation determiner determines that the second receiver sub component stops receiving the second data, and

wherein the decoder is further configured to decode the second data when the reception discontinuation determiner determines that the first receiver sub component stops receiving the first data.

32. The radio communication device of claim 30, characterized in that the first receiver sub component receives the first data via a first radio access technology and the second receiver sub component receives the second data via a second radio access technology.

33. The radio communication device of claim 32, characterized in that the first radio access technology and the second radio access technology are the same.

34. The radio communication device of claim 30, characterized in that the first receiver sub component receives the first data via a first cell and the second receiver sub component receives the second data via a second cell.

35. The radio communication device of claim 34, characterized in that the first cell and the second cell use the same radio access technology.

36. The radio communication device of claim 30, characterized in that the first receiver sub component receives the first data via a first bearer and the second receiver sub component receives the second data via a second bearer.

37. The radio communication device of claim 30, characterized in that the first receiver sub component receives the first data via a first component carrier and the second receiver sub component receives the second data via a second component carrier.

38. The radio communication device of claim 30, characterized in that the first receiver sub component and the second receiver sub component are elements of a single receiver module.

39. The radio communication device of claim 38, characterized in that the single receiver module receives said first data and said second data via a number of adjacent frequency bands from the same base station.

40. The radio communication device of claim 38, characterized in that the single receiver module receives said first data and said second data via a number of non-adjacent frequency bands from the same base station.

41. The radio communication device of claim 30, further comprising:

an available cell determiner configured to determine, whether a predetermined cell is available for the radio communication device.

42. The radio communication device of claim 30, further comprising:

a data requester configured to request transmission of further data representing the content encoded using a further codec from a further cell from an information provider.

43. The radio communication device of claim 30, further comprising:

a quality of service determiner configured to determine a required quality of service of the content for the radio communication device.

44. A radio communication device, comprising:

a first receiver configured to receive via a first component carrier data representing a content encoded using a first codec;

a second receiver configured to receive via a second component carrier data representing the content encoded using a second codec;

a combiner configured to combine the first data and the second data.
