Abstract
Disclosed is a method and system for analyzing patient hospitalization data to determine a Nosocomial Infection Marker (NIM), the method comprising receiving from a database hospitalization data associated with at least one patient, calculating from the hospitalization data the number of specimens with non-duplicate hospital isolates (SNDHI) markers, calculating from the hospitalization data antibiotic utilization criteria (AUC) markers, and determining the nosocomial infection marker (NIM) for each patient, based upon the calculated. SNDHI and AUC markers.

10. A computer-readable non-transitory medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon for execution by a processor to perform a method for analyzing patient hospitalization data in a hospital to determine a Nosocomial Infection Marker (NIM), the method comprising the steps of:
-
receiving from a database hospitalization data associated with at least one patient; identifying from the hospitalization data a first day upon which a patient was admitted to the hospital; identifying from the hospitalization data one or more days upon which antimicrobials were dispensed to the patient; assigning an Antibiotic Utilization Criteria (AUC) marker of zero to the patient if antimicrobials were dispensed to the patient on a day that is within a first number of days of the first day; assigning an AUC marker of one to the patient if no antimicrobials were dispensed to the patient within the first number of days of the first day and antimicrobials were dispensed to the patient on each of a second number of sequential days; and determining the NIM for the patient, wherein the NIM is equal to the AUC marker for that patient. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)
