Abstract

A tag/content management system delivers customized content and/or program instructions to a user terminal. The system may deliver several groups of program executable instructions, including instructions that are global to all web domains controlled by a client server and those that are specific to a web page/group of web pages. In addition, this system may allow for the creation of testing environments for websites that include modified content and/or program instructions. Various techniques employed by the system may result in a reduction in the errors and latencies that commonly plague conventional implementations.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a server from a user terminal, a first request for first program instructions configured to execute on the user terminal, where the first request is generated in response to the user terminal loading a first data using an application;

transmitting, to the user terminal, the first program instructions;

receiving, at the server, a second request for second program instructions configured to execute on the user terminal, wherein the second request is generated in response to execution of the first program instructions, and the second request includes information about the first data loaded from the application on the user terminal; and

routing, from the user terminal to an entity, a second data that has been collected.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining, using a processor of the server, the second program instructions based on the information about the first data loaded from the application on the user terminal.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

transmitting, to the user terminal, the second program instructions.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

storing, in computer memory, the collected data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the application comprises a web browser.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the application comprises a desktop application built in ADOBE™

Integrated Runtime (AIR).

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second program instructions are dynamically generated upon receiving the second request based on the information within the second request.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first data comprises a web page.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the first program instructions are configured to be executed when the web page is loaded at the user terminal.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the first program instructions are predefined for a webserver operating the web page.

11. The method of claim 3, wherein the second program instructions are configured to be executed when at least the first data is loaded at the user terminal.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second program instructions comprise JAVASCRIPT™

code.

13. The method of claim 3, wherein the first and second program instructions are configured to be executed when a document object model on the user terminal triggers the execution of the first and second program instructions.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the first and second program instructions are customized for each vendor seeking the second data.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the second program instructions are configured to display advertisements on a display associated with the user terminal.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the second data is related to activities of the user terminal while accessing the first data.

17. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

collecting and storing, in a memory of the server, a third data about a user of the user terminal from call logs and transaction histories.

18. The method of claim 8, wherein the second data comprise data chosen from the group consisting of:

a name associated with the web page loaded, a download time of the web page, a setting of a cookie for the web page, and mouse coordinates during a visit to the web page.

19. The method of claim 8, wherein the second data comprise data detailing movement of a mouse pointer over an object on the web page.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the second data comprise data for deep form field analysis.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the second data comprise data for session replay.

22. The method of claim 4, further comprising analyzing the second data in real time.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the analysis comprises executing data mining algorithms.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein the analysis comprises executing multivariate tests.

25. The method of claim 22, further comprising using the analyzed data to present specific content to the user terminal.

26. The method of claim 22, further comprising using the analyzed data to modify the first and second program instructions.

27. The method of claim 5, wherein the first program instructions are cached in the web browser to reduce latency.

28. An apparatus comprising:

a processor;

a memory having stored therein computer executable instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to perform a method of;

creating rules for execution of program instructions on a user terminal;

using the rules, generating a manager program with first program instructions configured to execute on the user terminal upon receiving a first request from the user terminal, wherein the first request is generated in response to the user terminal downloading data using an application; and

using the rules, generating page specific instructions configured to execute on the user terminal upon receiving a second request, wherein the second request is generated in response to execution of the first program instructions.

29. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein the manager program and the page specific instructions are configured to use call back functions to prevent the rules from executing out of order.

30. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein the method further performs:

updating the rules, thereby also updating the manager program and the page specific instructions.

31. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein the manager program is configured to prevent execution of the first program instructions and the page specific instructions when the manager program detects that the first program instructions and the page specific instructions are harmful.

32. A method comprising:

during downloading of a web page on a webserver by a user terminal, receiving a request for page specific program instructions, wherein the request is generated in response to execution of first program instructions on a user terminal; and

transmitting the page specific program instructions to the user terminal, wherein the page specific program instructions are configured to execute on the user terminal.

33. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

receiving data generated from the execution of the first and page-specific program instructions about activities of the user terminal during a visit to the web page.

34. The method of claim 33, further comprising:

storing the data generated from the execution of the first and page specific program instructions.

35. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

receiving a request to increase storage capacity.

36. The method of claim 35, further comprising increasing the storage capacity in response to the request for increased storage capacity.

37. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions for performing the steps comprising:

downloading a first data from a webserver;

in response to downloading the first data, transmitting to a server a first request for first program instructions;

receiving the first program instructions;

executing the first program instructions;

transmitting to the server a second request for second program instructions, wherein the second request is generated in response to execution of the first program instructions, and the second request includes information about the first data downloaded from the webserver;

receiving the second program instructions; and

executing the second program instructions.

38. The computer-readable medium of claim 37, wherein the first and second program instructions comprise JAVASCRIPT™

programs.

39. The computer-readable medium of claim 37, wherein the first data comprises a web page.
