Abstract

In at least one embodiment, a method for providing information to a user about a fitness activity includes receiving on a portable fitness device from a shoe having an RFID tag information relating to the shoe, wherein the shoe is for wearing during the fitness activity, receiving on the portable fitness device information about the fitness activity, and displaying to the user the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity.

Claims

1. A method for providing information to a user about a fitness activity, comprising:

receiving on a portable fitness device from a shoe having an RFID tag information

relating to the shoe, wherein the shoe is for wearing during the fitness activity;

receiving on the portable fitness device information about the fitness activity; and

displaying to the user the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe comprises an identification of the shoe.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe comprises mileage information for the shoe.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the information relating to the shoe comprises a total lifetime mileage for the shoe.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the information about the fitness activity comprises information about the user'"'"'s performance during the fitness activity.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the information about the fitness activity comprises at least one of heart rate, speed, pace, distance or elevation information.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the information about the fitness activity comprises a distance traveled during the fitness activity.

8. The method of claim 5, wherein the information about the fitness activity comprises GPS location information.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the fitness activity comprises a traversal of a route and the information about the fitness activity comprises route information.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe is received before the user begins the fitness activity.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe is received while the user is engaged in the fitness activity.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe is received after the user has completed the fitness activity.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity are displayed after the user has completed the fitness activity.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity are displayed on the portable fitness device.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity are displayed on a remote computer.

16. A method comprising:

receiving on a portable fitness device information about a fitness activity to be engaged in by a user;

receiving on the portable fitness device identification information relating to a shoe to be worn during the fitness activity when the portable fitness device is proximate to the shoe; and

in response to receiving the identification information relating to the shoe, storing the information relating to the shoe in association with the information about the fitness activity.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the shoe includes an RFID tag.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the information about the fitness activity includes a route to be traversed.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the information about the fitness activity includes a training plan.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the information relating to the shoe is stored in association with the information about the fitness activity on the portable fitness device.

21. The method of claim 16, further comprising displaying the information about the fitness activity and the information relating to the shoe.

22. The method of claim 16, further comprising receiving on the portable fitness device user performance data while the user is engaged in the fitness activity.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the user performance data comprises at least one of heart rate, speed, pace, distance or elevation data.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein the user performance data comprises GPS data.

25. The method of claim 22, further comprising displaying the user performance data and the information relating to the shoe.

26. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer useable medium having computer program logic stored therein for causing one or more processors of a portable fitness device to provide information to a user about a fitness activity, the computer program logic comprising:

first computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to receive on a portable fitness device from a shoe having an RFID tag information relating to the shoe, wherein the shoe is for wearing during the fitness activity;

second computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to receive on the portable fitness device information about the fitness activity; and

third computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to display to the user the information relating to the shoe and the information about the fitness activity.

27. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer useable medium having computer program logic stored therein for causing one or more processors of a portable fitness device to store information about a fitness activity, the computer program logic comprising:

first computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to receive on a portable fitness device information about a fitness activity to be engaged in by a user;

second computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to receive on the portable fitness device identification information relating to a shoe to be worn during the fitness activity when the portable fitness device is proximate to the shoe; and

third computer readable program code for causing the one or more processors to, in response to receiving the identification information relating to the shoe, store the information relating to the shoe in association with the information about the fitness activity.
