Abstract

A URI-redirection via machine-scannable-code system and method are provided herein.

Claims

1. A server-implemented method comprising:

in response to a single request from a remote rendering device to get a machine-scannable-code image resource hosted by the server, said single request indicating a destination URI, the server automatically;

parsing said single request to identify said destination URI;

obtaining a unique URI corresponding to said destination URI;

generating an image resource depicting at least in part a machine-scannable-code encoded with said unique URI;

delivering to said remote rendering device said image resource depicting said machine-scannable-code encoded with said unique URI.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein obtaining a unique URI corresponding to said destination URI comprises:

generating a new unique URI corresponding to said destination URI; and

associating said destination URI with said unique URI in a database.

The method of claim 1, further comprising, subsequent to delivering said image resource, the server, in response to a second request from a remote mobile device for a resource identified by said unique URI, said remote mobile device having obtained said unique URI by scanning said delivered image resource rendered on a display associated with said remote rendering device;

obtaining said destination URI according to said unique URI; and

redirecting said second request to said destination URI.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising, contemporaneous with redirecting said second request, the server storing analytic data associated with said second request.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein said analytic data comprises a determined device type device type associated with said remote mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said machine-scannable code comprises a two-dimensional barcode.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said single request comprises a single Hypertext Transfer Protocol “

GET”

request, said remote mobile device having obtained said destination URI from an attribute of an element from a markup language document hosted by a second, remote server.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising, in response to receiving said single request, the server further automatically determining an image customization attribute associated with said associated destination URI and unique URI;

and wherein said automatically generated image resource further depicts said image customization attribute.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein said single request further indicates a group identifier associating said single request with said image customization attribute.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising, subsequent to delivering said image resource, the server:

receiving from a remote mobile device a second request for a resource identified by said unique URI, said remote mobile device having obtained said unique URI by scanning said delivered image resource rendered on a display associated with said remote rendering device;

obtaining said destination URI according to said unique URI;

redirecting said second request to said destination URI; and

storing analytic data associated with said second request and said group identifier.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein said image customization attribute comprises at least one of a logo image, a text string, and an image color.

12. A non-transient computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, configure the processor to perform the method of claim 1.

13. An apparatus comprising a processor and a storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, configure the apparatus to perform the method of claim 1.

14. A server-implemented method comprising:

in response to receiving, by the server, a single request from a remote rendering device to get a machine-scannable-code image resource hosted by the server, said single request indicating a plurality of destination URIs, the server automatically;

parsing said single request to identify said plurality of destination URIs;

determining a plurality of conditional specifiers respectively associated with said plurality of destination URIs;

obtaining a unique URI corresponding to said plurality of destination URIs;

generating an image resource depicting at least in part a machine-scannable-code encoded with said unique URI;

delivering to said remote rendering device said image resource depicting said machine-scannable-code encoded with said unique URI.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein obtaining a unique URI corresponding to said plurality of destination URIs comprises:

generating a new unique URI corresponding to said plurality of destination URIs;

respectively associating said plurality of destination URIs and said plurality of conditional specifiers in a database; and

associating said unique URI with said plurality of destination URIs and said plurality of conditional specifiers in said database.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein determining said plurality of conditional specifiers respectively associated with said plurality of destination URIs comprises parsing said single request to identify said plurality of conditional specifiers.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein determining said plurality of conditional specifiers respectively associated with said plurality of destination URIs comprises determining a plurality of implicit conditional specifiers.

18. The method of claim 14, further comprising, subsequent to delivering said image resource, the server:

receiving from a remote mobile device a second request for a resource identified by said unique URI, said remote mobile device having obtained said unique URI by scanning said delivered image resource rendered on a display associated with said remote rendering device;

matching said second request to one of said plurality of conditional specifiers associated with said unique URI;

selecting one of said plurality of destination URIs according to said matched one of said plurality of conditional specifiers; and

redirecting said second request to said selected one of said plurality of destination URIs.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein matching said second request to one of said plurality of conditional specifiers associated with said unique URI comprises:

determining a device type associated with said remote mobile device; and

matching said determined device type to a device type specified by said one of said plurality of conditional specifiers.

20. The method of claim 18, further comprising, contemporaneous with redirecting said second request, the server storing analytic data associated with said selected one of said plurality of destination URIs and said matched one of said plurality of conditional specifiers.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein said analytic data comprises a determined device type associated with said remote mobile device.

22. The method of claim 14, wherein said machine-scannable code comprises a two-dimensional barcode.

23. The method of claim 14, wherein said single request comprises a single Hypertext Transfer Protocol “

GET”

request, said remote mobile device having obtained said destination URI from an attribute of an element from a markup language document hosted by a second, remote server.

24. A non-transient computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, configure the processor to perform the method of claim 14.

25. An apparatus comprising a processor and a storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, configure the apparatus to perform the method of claim 14.
