1. A method of monitoring a control channel in a multiple carrier system, the method comprising:
- receiving, at a user equipment, a self-control format indicator (CFI) indicating a size of a control region of a first carrier by using the first carrier;
receiving, at a user equipment, downlink control information (DCI) comprising a cross-CFI indicating a size of a control region of a second carrier over a first downlink control channel in the control region of the first carrier; and
monitoring, at a user equipment, a second downlink control channel in the control region of the second carrier.

Abstract
A method and apparatus supporting multiple carriers is provided. A user equipment receives a self-control format indicator (CFI) indicating a size of a control region of a first carrier by using the first carrier. The user equipment receives downlink control information (DCI) comprising a cross-CFI indicating a size of a control region of a second carrier over a first downlink control channel in the control region of the first carrier. The user equipment monitors a second downlink control channel in the control region of the second carrier.
