Abstract

Techniques for acknowledging data transmissions in a multi-carrier wireless communication network are disclosed. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) receives a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of configured CCs. The UE determines acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission and determines an uplink channel for sending the ACK/NACK information. When the ACK/NACK information is sent on a PUCCH, the UE may perform power control based on which CCs in the plurality of configured CCs data is received. When the ACK/NACK information is sent on a PUSCH, the UE may determine a number of resource elements based on its CC configuration.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

determining an uplink channel for sending the ACK/NACK information;

performing power control for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the at least one CC on which the data transmission is received when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH); and

determining a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH).

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the performing power control comprises:

determining a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission, and

determining a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received on the data transmission.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the determining the total number of transport blocks comprises:

determining that one transport block is received on each CC associated with a downlink grant having a downlink control information (DCI) format supporting one transport block,

determining that two transport blocks are received on each CC associated with a downlink grant having a DCI format supporting two transport blocks, and

determining the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission based on the one or two transport blocks received on each of the at least one CCs on which the data transmission is received.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining the number of resource elements comprises:

determining a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

determining the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the determining the total number of ACK/NACK bits comprises:

determining one ACK/NACK bit for each CC configured with a transmission mode supporting one transport block,

determining two ACK/NACK bits for each CC configured with a transmission mode supporting two transport blocks, and

determining the total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs based on the one or two ACK/NACK bits for each of the plurality of CCs.

6. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

means for determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

means for determining an uplink channel for sending the ACK/NACK information;

means for performing power control for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the at least one CC on which the data transmission is received when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH); and

means for determining a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH).

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the means for performing power control comprises:

means for determining a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission, and

means for determining a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission.

8. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the means for determining the number of resource elements comprises:

means for determining a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

means for determining the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits.

9. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission,

determine an uplink channel for sending the ACK/NACK information, to perform power control for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the at least one CC on which the data transmission is received when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), and

determine a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH); and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

determine a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission, and

determine a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:

determine a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

determine the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits.

12. A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

code for causing at least one processor to receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

code for causing the at least one processor to determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission,

code for causing the at least one processor to determine an uplink channel for sending the ACK/NACK information,

code for causing the at least one processor to perform power control for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the at least one CC on which the data transmission is received when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), and

code for causing the at least one processor to determine a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH).

13. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE;

determining an uplink channel for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE;

receiving the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) at a transmit power determined according to the at least one CC of the data transmission when it is determined to receive the ACK/NACK information on the PUCCH; and

receiving the ACK/NACK information on a number of resource elements of a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) corresponding to the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to receive the ACK/NACK information on the PUSCH.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the transmit power is determined based on a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the number of resource elements is determined based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs.

16. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE;

means for determining an uplink channel for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE;

means for receiving the ACK/NACK information sent on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) at a transmit power determined based on the at least one CC of the data transmission when it is determined to receive the ACK/NACK information on the PUCCH; and

means for receiving the ACK/NACK information sent on a number of resource elements of a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) corresponding to the plurality of CCs configured for the UE when it is determined to receive the ACK/NACK information on the PUSCH.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the transmit power is determined based on a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the number of resource elements is determined based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs.

19. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

determining a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission on the at least one CC;

determining a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission; and

sending the ACK/NACK information based on the determined transmit power.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the determining the total number of transport blocks comprises:

determining a number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC, and

determining the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission based on the number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the determining the number of transport blocks received on the at least one CC comprises:

determining that one transport block is received on each of the at least one CCs associated with a downlink grant having a downlink control information (DCI) format supporting one transport block, and

determining that two transport blocks are received on each of the at least one CCs associated with a downlink grant having a DCI format supporting two transport blocks.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the determining the total number of transport blocks comprises:

summing a number of transport blocks received by the UE on the at least one CC in a single subframe.

23. The method of claim 19, wherein the determining the total number of transport blocks comprises:

determining a number of ACK/NACK bits for each CC in the at least one CC, and determining a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the data transmission on the at least one CC based on the number of ACK/NACK bits for each CC, wherein the total number of ACK/NACK bits matches the total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

24. The method of claim 19, wherein the sending the ACK/NACK information comprises:

sending the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) based on the determined transmit power.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

determining a PUCCH format for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein the sending the ACK/NACK information comprises sending the ACK/NACK information based on a PUCCH format supporting two signaling bits and channel selection.

27. The method of claim 24, wherein the sending the ACK/NACK information comprises sending the ACK/NACK information based on a PUCCH format utilizing discrete Fourier transform-spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM).

28. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

determining available bits for sending channel state information (CSI) based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the data transmission and an available payload size; and

multiplexing the CSI with the ACK/NACK information based on the available bits.

29. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

multiplexing channel state information (CSI) with the ACK/NACK information in a subframe in which the ACK/NACK information is sent.

30. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

dropping channel state information (CSI) in a subframe in which the ACK/NACK information is sent.

31. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

means for determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

means for determining a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission on the at least one CC;

means for determining a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission; and

means for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the determined transmit power.

32. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the means for determining the total number of transport blocks comprises:

means for determining a number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC, and

means for determining the total number of transport blocks received on the at least one CC based on the number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC.

33. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the means for sending the ACK/NACK information comprises means for sending the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) based on the determined transmit power.

34. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission, to determine a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission on the at least one CC,

determine a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission, and

send the ACK/NACK information based on the determined transmit power; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

35. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:

determine a number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC, and

determine the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission based on the number of transport blocks received on each of the at least one CC.

36. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the at least one processor is configured to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) based on the determined transmit power.

37. A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

code for causing at least one processor to receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

code for causing the at least one processor to determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission,

code for causing the at least one processor to determine a total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission on the at least one CC,

code for causing the at least one processor to determine a transmit power for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of transport blocks received in the data transmission, and

code for causing the at least one processor to send the ACK/NACK information based on the determined transmit power.

38. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE, wherein the ACK/NACK information is sent by the UE at a transmit power corresponding to a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

39. The method of claim 38, further comprising:

sending at least one downlink grant for the data transmission on the at least one CC.

40. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

means for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE, wherein the ACK/NACK information is sent by the UE at a transmit power corresponding to a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

41. The apparatus of claim 40, further comprising:

means for sending at least one downlink grant for the data transmission on the at least one CC.

42. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

send, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

receive acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE, wherein the ACK/NACK information is sent by the UE at a transmit power corresponding to a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, wherein the at least one processor is configured to send at least one downlink grant for the data transmission on the at least one CC.

44. A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

code for causing at least one processor to send, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

code for causing the at least one processor to receive acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission from the UE, wherein the ACK/NACK information is sent by the UE at a transmit power corresponding to a total number of transport blocks received by the UE in the data transmission.

45. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

determining a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

sending the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.

46. The method of claim 45, wherein the determining the number of resource elements comprises:

determining a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs, and

determining the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein the determining the total number of ACK/NACK bits comprises:

determining one ACK/NACK bit for each CC configured with a transmission mode supporting one transport block,

determining two ACK/NACK bits for each CC configured with a transmission mode supporting two transport blocks, and

determining the total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs based on one or two ACK/NACK bits for each of the plurality of CCs.

48. The method of claim 46, further comprising:

ordering ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs based on an index of each CC in the plurality of CCs.

49. The method of claim 45, wherein the sending the ACK/NACK information comprises:

sending the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) based on the determined number of resource elements.

50. The method of claim 49, further comprising:

multiplexing channel state information (CSI) with the ACK/NACK information on the PUSCH.

51. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE);

means for determining acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission;

means for determining a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

means for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.

52. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein the means for determining the number of resource elements comprises

means for determining a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs, and

means for determining the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs.

53. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein the means for sending the ACK/NACK information comprises

means for sending the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) based on the determined number of resource elements.

54. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission,

determine a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

send the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

55. The apparatus of claim 54, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:

determine a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs, and

determine the number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs.

56. The apparatus of claim 54, wherein the at least one processor is configured to send the ACK/NACK information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) based on the determined number of resource elements.

57. A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

code for causing at least one processor to receive a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for a user equipment (UE),

code for causing the at least one processor to determine acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission

code for causing the at least one processor to determine a number of resource elements for sending the ACK/NACK information based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

code for causing the at least one processor to send the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.

58. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE;

determining a number of resource elements for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

receiving the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.

59. The method of claim 58, wherein the number of resource elements is determined based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and wherein a number of ACK/NACK bits for each of the plurality of CCs is determined based on a transmission mode of the CC.

60. The method of claim 58, wherein ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs are ordered based on an index of each CC in the plurality of CCs.

61. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for sending, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE;

means for determining a number of resource elements for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE; and

means for receiving the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.

62. The apparatus of claim 61, wherein the number of resource elements is determined based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and wherein a number of ACK/NACK bits for each of the plurality of CCs is determined based on a transmission mode of the CC.

63. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

send, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE,

determine a number of resource elements for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

receive the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

64. The apparatus of claim 63, wherein the number of resource elements is determined based on a total number of ACK/NACK bits for the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and wherein a number of ACK/NACK bits for each of the plurality of CCs is determined based on a transmission mode of the CC.

65. A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising;

code for causing at least one processor to send, to a user equipment (UE), a data transmission on at least one component carrier (CC) in a plurality of CCs configured for the UE,

code for causing the at least one processor to determine a number of resource elements for receiving acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information for the data transmission based on the plurality of CCs configured for the UE, and

code for causing the at least one processor to receive the ACK/NACK information based on the determined number of resource elements.
