Remotely Reconfigurable Distributed Antenna System and Methods
First Claim
1. A method for routing and switching operator RF signals comprisingproviding one or more remote radio units, each configured to receive one or more downlink radio frequencies and to transmit one or more uplink radio frequencies, providing at least one digital access unit configured to communicate with at least some remote radio units, translating the uplink and downlink signals between RF and base band as appropriate, packetizing the uplink and downlink base band signals, androuting and switching the packetized signals among the one or more radio units and the at least one digital access units.

Abstract
The present disclosure is a novel utility of a software defined radio (SDR) based Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that is field reconfigurable and support multi-modulation schemes (modulation-independent), multi-carriers, multi-frequency bands and multi-channels. The present disclosure enables a high degree of flexibility to manage, control, enhance, facilitate the usage and performance of a distributed wireless network such as flexible simulcast, automatic traffic load-balancing, network and radio resource optimization, network calibration, autonomous/assisted commissioning, carrier pooling, automatic frequency selection, frequency carrier placement, traffic monitoring, traffic tagging, pilot beacon, etc. As a result, the SDR DAS can increase the efficiency and traffic capacity of the operators'"'"' wireless network.

2. A method for locating a wireless network subscriber within a network of radio units comprising
generating at each radio unit a unique pilot beacon adapted to be received by a subscriber device, receiving at a central location, from a subscriber device, indicia identifying the at least one pilot beacon received by the subscriber device, and determining, based on the received indicia, the approximate location of the subscriber.

3. A method for locating a wireless network subscriber within a network of radio units comprising
receiving at least one radio unit within a network of radio units, from a subscriber device, an emergency signal on a carrier frequency and time slot and forwarding the emergency signal to a remote station, receiving at a plurality of radio units, from the remote station, a query as to whether an identified carrier frequency and time slot used by the emergency signal is active responding, at the radio unit where the identified carrier frequency and time slot are active, and determining, based on the response, the approximate location of the subscriber.
