Abstract

A mobile terminal including a sensor unit configured to sense an orientation direction of a housing of the mobile terminal, a first display unit configured to display a first screen image, an interface unit configured to be connected to an external display device having a second display unit, and a controller configured to interface with the external display device to display a monitor window including a second screen image corresponding to the first screen image on the external display device, and to control the monitor window to be displayed on the second display unit according to the sensed orientation direction of the housing.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal, comprising:

a sensor unit configured to sense an orientation direction of a housing of the mobile terminal;

a first display unit configured to display a first screen image;

an interface unit configured to be connected to an external display device having a second display unit; and

a controller configured to interface with the external display device to display a monitor window including a second screen image corresponding to the first screen image on the external display device, and to control the monitor window to be displayed on the second display unit according to the sensed orientation direction of the housing.

The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein when the first screen image is displayed on the first display unit in a first display direction among a landscape direction and a portrait direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed on the second display unit in the first display direction.

The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein the controller is further configured to receive information from the external display device indicating an orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction, and to then control the first screen image to be displayed on the first display unit in a second display direction among the landscape direction and the portrait direction.

The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein the controller is further configured to receive information from the external display device indicating the orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction even though the orientation direction of the housing of the mobile terminal is not changed, and to control the first screen image to be displayed on the first display unit in the second display direction changed from the first direction.

The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein when the first screen image is displayed on the first display unit in a second display direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed on the second display unit in the second display direction changed from the first display direction.

The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein the controller is further configured to receive information from the external display device indicating the orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction even though the orientation direction of the housing is not changed, and to maintain the displaying of the first screen image in the first direction.

7. The mobile terminal of claim 6, wherein when the first screen image is displayed in the first display direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed in the second display direction.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the first display unit includes a touchscreen, and

wherein the controller is further configured to control the monitor window to be generated when a prescribed touch gesture is performed on the touchscreen after the mobile terminal is connected to the external display device.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein when the first screen image is zoomed in on the first display unit, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be enlarged by enlarging the monitor window on the second display unit.

10. A display device, comprising:

an interface unit configured to be connected to a mobile terminal having a first display unit displaying a first screen image;

a second display unit; and

a controller configured to interface with the mobile terminal to display a monitor window including a second screen image corresponding to the first screen image on the second display unit, to receive an orientation signal from the mobile terminal indicating an orientation direction of a housing of the mobile terminal, and to control the monitor window to be displayed on the second display unit according to the received orientation signal.

The display device of claim 10, wherein when the first screen image is displayed on the first display unit in a first display direction among a landscape direction and a portrait direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed on the second display unit in the first display direction.

The display device of claim 11, wherein when an orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction, the controller is further configured to transmit information to the mobile terminal to control the first screen image to be displayed on the first display unit in a second display direction among the landscape direction and the portrait direction.

The display device of claim 11, wherein the controller is further configured to transmit information to the mobile terminal indicating the orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction even though the orientation direction of the housing of the mobile terminal is not changed, and to control the first screen image to be displayed on the first display unit in the second display direction changed from the first direction.

The display device of claim 11, wherein when the first screen image is displayed on the first display unit in a second display direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed on the second display unit in the second display direction changed from the first display direction.

The display device of claim 11, wherein the controller is further configured to transmit information to the mobile terminal indicating the orientation direction of the monitor window is changed into a different orientation direction even though the orientation direction of the housing is not changed, and to control the first screen image to be maintained in the first direction.

16. The display device of claim 15, wherein when the first screen image is displayed in the first display direction, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be displayed in the second display direction.

17. The display device of claim 10, wherein the controller is further configured to generate and display the monitor window when a prescribed touch gesture is performed on a touchscreen of the mobile terminal after the display device is connected to the mobile terminal.

18. The display device of claim 10, wherein when the first screen image is zoomed in on the first display unit, the controller is further configured to control the second screen image to be enlarged by enlarging the monitor window on the second display unit.

19. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

sensing, via a sensor unit on the mobile terminal, an orientation direction of a housing of the mobile terminal;

displaying, via a first display unit on the mobile terminal, a first screen image;

interfacing, via an interface unit on the mobile terminal, with an external display device having a second display unit to display a monitor window including a second screen image corresponding to the first screen image on the external display device; and

controlling, via a controller on the mobile terminal, the monitor window to be displayed on the second display unit according to the sensed orientation direction of the housing.

20. A method of controlling a display device, the method comprising:

connecting, via an interface unit on the display device, the display device to a mobile terminal having a first display unit displaying a first screen image;

displaying, via a second display unit on the display device, a monitor window including a second screen image corresponding to the first screen image;

receiving, via the interface unit, an orientation signal from the mobile terminal indicating an orientation direction of a housing of the mobile terminal; and

controlling, via a controller on the display device, the monitor window to be displayed on the second display unit according to the received orientation signal.
