NOVEL METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PRESCRIBING SAMPLE PRESCRIPTIONS
First Claim
1. A prescription tracking and management system, comprising:
- remote communication modules comprising a prescriber module, a pharmacy module, and a pharmaceutical module; and
a management module for transmitting information to and receiving information from at least one remote communication module through an Internet connection, said management module creating a plurality of tracking codes and corresponding electronic prescription data file for each tracking code in response to an electronic activation of tracking code allotments by a pharmaceutical company through the pharmaceutical module, said management module storing the tracking codes in a storage device;
wherein;
said management module upon receiving pharmaceutical product information from the pharmaceutical module assigns the information to the electronic prescription data files;
a prescriber through the prescriber module, adds a particular patient'"'"'s information to a selected electronic prescription data file with associated tracking code, whereby said prescription data file and tracking code become unique to said specific patient and the prescribing event, such that no two patients have the same prescription data file and tracking code combination; and
the management module, at request of the prescriber, electronically sends the tracking code and the corresponding electronic prescription data file containing the patient'"'"'s prescription information to a pharmacy through an eRx switch, wherein the pharmacy is a separate entity than the prescriber; and
the pharmacy through the pharmacy module adds prescription tracking information relative to the physical pharmaceutical product to be dispensed by the pharmacy to said electronic prescription data file.

Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed for providing sample prescriptions electronically and creating a complete data set of information regarding the life-cycle of the sample prescription. In one embodiment, a sample prescription system comprises a management module that stores files corresponding to sample prescriptions. Each corresponding file is linked to a unique sample code. The sample code and linked file together comprise an electronic history of the sample'"'"'s life-cycle, which is built dynamically over time into a comprehensive code containing all information relevant to a prescribed sample and its path to consumption.
