Abstract

A system and method for the multiple selection of digitally stored objects and the link-tokens of each selected object for simultaneous presentation and examination of the selected objects with their associated linked objects and information, including organized array presentation for graphical thumbnails that represent the selected objects, as well as sub-framing, which allows intelligent partitioning of information associated with an object.

Claims

1. A method for configuring and displaying data on a display device, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

configuring data for display in a viewable page format on the display device;

configuring a portion of the data into a set of at least one element to be displayed in a designated area of the viewable page, the designated area for the set being smaller than that which is required to display the set in its entirety; and

in response to displaying the viewable page on a display device, causing performance of an automated updating function that updates a first portion of the set displayed in the designated area of the viewable page during a first time interval with a second portion of the set, so that the second portion is displayed in a second time interval in the designated area of the viewable page.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein updating the first portion of the set further comprises scrolling the first portion off of the designated area and scrolling the second portion onto the designated area in a direction.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the scrolling occurs in a direction corresponding to a user input.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the category of data configured for display in the designated area in the viewable page for the set corresponds to a user input.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the automatic updating function is initiated in response to an input from a user.

6. The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying a sub-framed area to display the set of at least one element and displaying a visual indicator indicating how much of the total set has been displayed.

7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying an image corresponding to an element of the set.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein in response to an element of the set being selected, the automatic updating function is stopped and information corresponding to the element is caused to be displayed.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the automatic updating function is configured to stop updating when a cursor is positioned a distance of at least proximate to an element of the set, and is configured to resume when the cursor is positioned a further distance from the set.

10. The method according to claims 1, further including a mechanism to emphasize a selected element of the set to differentiate from other elements.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the automatic update function has a rate of updating, and the rate of updating is controlled in response to a user input.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of causing performance of an automated updating function further comprises the automatic update function displaying a first element of the set during a first time interval, and displaying a second element of the set during a second time interval.

14. The system according to claim 12, wherein updating the first portion of the set includes scrolling the first portion off of the designated display area and scrolling the second portion onto the designated display area in a direction.

15. The system according to claim 12, further comprising scrolling in a direction corresponding to a user input.

16. The system according to claim 12, wherein the category of data configured into the set for display in the designated display area corresponds to a user input.

17. The system according to claim 12 further comprising a mechanism, displayed on the designated area of the viewable page, configured to initiate the automated updating function.

18. The system according to claim 12 further comprising a sub-framed area to display the set of at least one element, and further comprising a visual indicator to indicate how much of the total set has been displayed.

19. The system according to claim 12, further comprising an image representation of an object corresponding to an element of the set.

20. The system according to claim 12, and wherein upon selection of an element of the set, the updating is caused to stop and information regarding the element is displayed.

21. The system according to claim 12, wherein the automatic updating function is configured to stop updating when a cursor is positioned a distance of at least proximate to a displayed element of the set, and is configured to resume updating when the cursor is positioned a further distance from the set.

22. The system according to claim 12, further including a mechanism to emphasize a selected element of the set to differentiate the marked element from other elements.

24. The system according to claim 12, wherein the automatic updating function has a rate of updating, and the designated area includes a mechanism configured to control the rate of updating.

13. A system for configuring and displaying data on a display device, the system comprising:

one or more processors;

software to configure data for display on a display device in a viewable page format;

the software configuring a portion of the data into a set of at least one element to be displayed in a designated area of the viewable page, wherein the designated area for the set of at least one element is smaller than that which is required to display the set in its entirety;

and in response to displaying the viewable range, the software causing performance of an automated updating function that updates a first portion of the set displayed during a first time interval in the designated area of the viewable page with a second portion of the set so that the second portion is displayed during a second time interval in the designated area of the viewable page.

23. The method according to claim 13, wherein the automatic update function displays a first element of the set during a first time interval, and displays a second element of the set during a second time interval.

26. A method according to claim 23, where in the category menu is a hidden multi-level category menu, wherein each level menu appears when the menu'"'"'s immediate higher level category title is selected.

25. A method for dynamic and interactive user selection of a category of data to be incorporated into a set to be displayed in a designated area of a viewable page, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

displaying in the designated area a symbol corresponding to a category selection mechanism;

in response to the symbol being accessed, the category selection mechanism causing a category menu including at least one category of data to be displayed, and

in response to a receiving a selection of a category of data, displaying data associated with the selected category in the designated area.

28. A system according to claim 25, where in the category menu is a hidden mufti-level category menu, wherein each level menu appears when the menu'"'"'s immediate higher level category title is selected.

27. A system for facilitating dynamic and interactive user selection of a category of data to be incorporated into a set to be displayed in a designated area of a viewable page on a display device, the system comprising:

a memory that stores instructions;

one or more processors that use instructions stored in the memory to perform one or more actions comprising;

displaying in the designated area a symbol corresponding to a category selection mechanism;

in response to the symbol being accessed, the category selection mechanism causing a category menu including at least one category of data to be displayed, and

in response to receiving a selection of a category of data, displaying data associated with the selected category in the designated area
