Abstract

A dried blood-spotting device includes a carrier card having a window therethrough along with a punchable glass fiber paper disposed in the window for a uniform absorption of a blood droplet sample into a homogeneous circular sport. The glass fiber paper is configured for enabling improved analysis for small molecules by a liquid chemotography/mass spectroscopy of punched specimens of the sample absorbed glass fiber paper.

Claims

1. A dried blood spotting device comprising:

a carrier card having a window therethrough; and

punchable glass fiber paper disposed in window, for uniform absorption of a blood droplet sample into a homogeneous circular spot, the glass fiber paper being configured for enabling improved analysis for small molecules by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry of punched specimens of the sample absorbed glass fiber paper.

2. The device according to claim 1, wherein the glass fiber paper is configured without cellulose to enable analysis of small molecules.

3. The device according to claim 2, wherein said small molecules comprise pharmaceutical compounds and drugs.

4. The device according to claim 3, wherein the pharmaceutical compounds are selected from a group consisting of METOPROLOL, PROPRANOLOL, AMITRIPTYLINE, and CLOZAPINE.

5. The device according to claim 1, wherein the glass fiber paper is of a thickness enabling complete absorption of the blood droplet sample through the glass fiber paper.

6. The device according to claim 5, wherein the glass fiber paper has a thickness of about 0.03 mm.

7. A dried blood spotting device comprising:

a carrier card having a window therethrough; and

a fibrous paper disposed in said window and configured for absorbing a blood droplet sample to form a homogenous blood sport without a halo thereabout and enabling analysis of dried blood droplet samples by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry for small molecules, the blood spot being punchable from the glass fiber paper for enabling the analysis.

8. The device according to claim 7, wherein the fibrous paper is configured without celluloid to enable analysis of small molecules.

9. The device according to claim 8, wherein the fibrous paper is untreated glass fiber.

10. The device according to claim 9, wherein the fibrous paper is cellulose free.

11. The device according to claim 10, wherein said small molecules comprises pharmaceutical compounds and drugs.

12. The device according to claim 11, wherein the pharmaceutical compound are selected from a group consisting OF METOPROLOL, PROPRANOLOL, AMITRIPTYLINE, and CLOZAPINE.

13. The device according to claim 12, wherein the glass fiber paper has a thickness of about 0.03 mm.

14. The device according to claim 12 wherein the glass fiber paper is of a thickness enabling complete absorption of the blood droplet sample through the glass fiber paper.

15. A method for assaying pharmaceutical compounds in a liquid blood sample, the method comprising:

providing a material for absorbing the liquid blood sample;

applying the liquid blood sample to the material;

allowing the liquid blood sample to dry into a dried sample;

punching a portion of the dried sample into a separate dried specimen; and

assaying the separate dried specimen for pharmaceutical compounds by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein providing a material includes providing a cellulose free glass fiber paper.

17. The method according to claim 16 wherein providing a material includes providing the glass fiber paper in a window of a carrier supporting the glass fiber paper.

19. The method according to claim 17 wherein assaying the separate dried specimen indicia assays for a pharmaceutical compound selected from a group consisting of METOPROLOL, PROPRANOLOL, AMITRIPTYLINE, and CLOZAPINE.
