Abstract

A method includes responsive to receiving a command to view multimedia content, displaying the multimedia content. A selection of a privacy level for the multimedia content is received, the privacy level indicating whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published. A visual indicator of the privacy level is displayed concurrently with displaying the multimedia content.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

responsive to receiving a command to view multimedia content, displaying the multimedia content;

receiving a selection of a privacy level for the multimedia content, the privacy level indicating whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

responsive to receiving the selection of the privacy level;

displaying a visual indicator of the privacy level concurrently with displaying the multimedia content.

2. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the privacy level indicates whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published on a web page associated with the user.

3. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

4. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, refraining from publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

5. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the privacy level further indicates one or more of:

where the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

how the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

when the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published.

6. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises displaying a colored indicator, wherein a color of the colored indicator is based on the privacy level.

7. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises configuring a remote control device to display a colored indicator concurrently with displaying the multimedia content on a display screen.

8. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises overlaying an icon on the multimedia content being displayed, the icon indicating the privacy level.

9. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises configuring a display device to display a colored indicator concurrently with displaying the multimedia content on the display device.

10. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the selection of the privacy level is received from the user.

11. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes performance of steps comprising:

responsive to receiving a command to view multimedia content, displaying the multimedia content;

receiving a selection of a privacy level for the multimedia content, the privacy level indicating whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

responsive to receiving the selection of the privacy level;

displaying a visual indicator of the privacy level concurrently with displaying the multimedia content.

12. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein the privacy level indicates whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published on a web page associated with the user.

13. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein the steps further comprise:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

14. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein the steps further comprise:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, refraining from publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

15. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein the privacy level further indicates one or more of:

where the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

how the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

when the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published.

16. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises displaying a colored indicator, wherein a color of the colored indicator is based on the privacy level.

17. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises configuring a remote control device to display a colored indicator concurrently with displaying the multimedia content on a display screen.

18. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises overlaying an icon on the multimedia content being displayed, the icon indicating the privacy level.

19. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises configuring a display device to display a colored indicator concurrently with displaying the multimedia content on the display device.

20. The computer readable medium as recited in claim 11, wherein the selection of the privacy level is received from the user.

21. A system comprising:

one or more processors;

a computer readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, causes performance of steps comprising;

responsive to receiving a command to view multimedia content, displaying the multimedia content;

receiving a selection of a privacy level for the multimedia content, the privacy level indicating whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

responsive to receiving the selection of the privacy level;

displaying a visual indicator of the privacy level concurrently with displaying the multimedia content.

22. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein the privacy level indicates whether information associated with a user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published on a web page associated with the user.

23. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein the steps further comprise:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

24. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein the steps further comprise:

responsive to the privacy level indicating that the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published, refraining from publishing the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content.

25. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein the privacy level further indicates one or more of:

where the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

how the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published;

when the information associated with the user'"'"'s viewing of the multimedia content may be published.

26. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises displaying a colored indicator, wherein a color of the colored indicator is based on the privacy level.

27. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises configuring a remote control device to display a colored indicator concurrently with displaying the multimedia content on a display screen.

28. The system as recited in claim 21, wherein displaying the visual indicator of the privacy level comprises overlaying an icon on the multimedia content being displayed, the icon indicating the privacy level.
