Abstract

The present technology is directed to improving the conversion rate of invitational content that is provided to the user of an interactive, content-receiving-and-displaying device. The content of a large number of primary-content sources is analyzed and keyword and/or other context-providing information is extracted from the primary-content sources. The keyword and/or other context-providing information is used to index the primary-content sources into an index according to a hierarchical taxonomy; the hierarchical taxonometric index is used to identify primary-content sources with which a given item of invitational content correlates; and the given item of invitational content is delivered to a user in response to the user accessing a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

analyzing the content of a multiplicity of primary-content sources and extracting keyword and/or other context-providing information from the primary-content sources;

using the keyword and/or other context-providing information, indexing the primary-content sources into an index according to a hierarchical taxonomy;

using the hierarchical taxonometric index, identifying primary-content sources with which a given item of invitational content correlates; and

delivering the given item of invitational content to a user in response to the user accessing a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising determining characteristics and/or interests of the user based at least on the primary context of the primary-content sources the user accesses;

and

delivering the given item of invitational content to the user only when both

     1) the user accesses a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates and

     2) the given item of invitational content correlates with the characteristics and/or interests of the user.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising using publisher-provided information to index the primary-content sources into the index.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying tags associated with the primary-content sources that contain textual word or string content and using the textual word or string content to index primary-content sources with which such tags are associated.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources and obtaining page or site description snippets from an online search engine and/or mapper, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on information contained within their associated description snippets.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on page or site description snippets contained within their associated META tags.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising assigning a relevancy score to the extracted keyword and/or other context-providing information.

8. A server, comprising:

a processor; and

a set of machine-readable instructions residing on the server, which instructions, when executed by the processor, are effective to cause the processor to execute a method comprising;

analyzing the content of a multiplicity of primary-content sources and extracting keyword and/or other context-providing information from the primary-content sources;

using the keyword and/or other context-providing information, indexing the primary-content sources into an index according to a hierarchical taxonomy;

using the hierarchical taxonometric index, identifying primary-content sources with which a given item of invitational content correlates; and

delivering the given item of invitational content to a user in response to the user accessing a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates.

9. The server of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises:

determining characteristics and/or interests of the user based at least on the primary context of the primary-content sources the user accesses; and

delivering the given item of invitational content to the user only when both

     1) the user accesses a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates and

     2) the given item of invitational content correlates with the characteristics and/or interests of the user.

10. The server of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises using publisher-provided information to index the primary-content sources into the index.

11. The server of claim 8, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying tags associated with the primary-content sources that contain textual word or string content and using the textual word or string content to index primary-content sources with which such tags are associated.

12. The server of claim 8, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources and obtaining page or site description snippets from an online search engine and/or mapper, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on information contained within their associated description snippets.

13. The server of claim 8, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on page or site description snippets contained within their associated META tags.

14. The server of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises assigning a relevancy score to the extracted keyword and/or other context-providing information.

15. A product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

machine-readable instructions on the non-transitory computer-readable medium, which instructions, when implemented by a process, are effective to cause the processor to execute a method comprising;

analyzing the content of a multiplicity of primary-content sources and extracting keyword and/or other context-providing information from the primary-content sources;

using the keyword and/or other context-providing information, indexing the primary-content sources into an index according to a hierarchical taxonomy;

using the hierarchical taxonometric index, identifying primary-content sources with which a given item of invitational content correlates; and

delivering the given item of invitational content to a user in response to the user accessing a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates.

16. The product of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises

determining characteristics and/or interests of the user based at least on the primary context of the primary-content sources the user accesses;

and

delivering the given item of invitational content to the user only when both

     1) the user accesses a primary-content source with which the given item of invitational content correlates and

     2) the given item of invitational content correlates with the characteristics and/or interests of the user.

17. The product of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises using publisher-provided information to index the primary-content sources into the index.

18. The product of claim 15, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying tags associated with the primary-content sources that contain textual word or string content and using the textual word or string content to index primary-content sources with which such tags are associated.

19. The product of claim 15, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources and obtaining page or site description snippets from an online search engine and/or mapper, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on information contained within their associated description snippets.

20. The product of claim 15, wherein the analyzing and extracting comprises identifying META tags associated with primary-content sources, and

indexing primary-content sources with which META tags are associated based on page or site description snippets contained within their associated META tags.

21. The product of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises assigning a relevancy score to the extracted keyword and/or other context-providing information.
