Abstract

A radio frequency identification wristband for attaching to a patient that has a band, a wristband housing attached to or integral with said band, one or more radio frequency identification tag(s) or tag inlay(s), an insulator material, wherein said wristband housing is adhered to said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay, said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay is adhered to an isolator material, and wherein said insulator material is nearest to the skin of the patient and insulates the radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay from the patient'"'"'s skin.

Claims

1. A radio frequency identification wristband for attaching to a patient comprising:

a band;

a wristband housing attached to or integral with said band;

one or more radio frequency identification tag(s) or tag inlay(s);

an insulator material;

wherein said wristband housing is adhered to said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay, said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay is adhered to an isolator material; and

wherein said insulator material is nearest to the skin of the patient and insulates the radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay from the patient'"'"'s skin.

2. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said wristband housing is adhered to said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay and said radio frequency identification tag or tag inlay is adhered to said insulator material using a medical grade adhesive.

3. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said tag or said tag inlay is passive or battery-assist passive.

4. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, further comprising a visual identity label.

5. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said insulator material is foam.

6. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 5, wherein said foam has a low dielectric material.

7. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 5, wherein said foam is a latex free material.

8. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 5, wherein said foam is hypoallergenic.

9. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said tag or tag inlay and said insulator material are laminated and the insulator material is hydrophobic or hydrophyllic.

10. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said tag or tag inlay and said insulator material are non-laminated and said insulator material is hydrophobic.

11. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said band further comprises a clasp closure on one end and said band defines one or more holes on an opposite end for engaging said clasp for affixing said wristband to said patient.

12. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said wristband is capable of being affixed to an ankle.

13. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 11, wherein said housing is located between said clasp closure and said opposite end.

14. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein said tag or tag inlay comprises a 96 bit electronic product code based identifier.

15. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein there are two tags or tag inlays and each of said tags or tag inlays is encoded with the same number or different numbers, or arbitrary unique identifiers.

16. The radio frequency identification wristband of claim 1, wherein the tag or tag inlay further comprises a user memory for storing information.
