Abstract

A health kiosk system is provided. A kiosk has a computing unit and a physiological measurement apparatus connected to the computing unit. A Web browser of the computing unit transmits information corresponding to the physiological measurement apparatus and a request for a resource to a Web server. In response to receiving the request, the Web server transmits to the kiosk profile-specific Web content responsive to the request and specific to the received profile information. The information corresponding to the physiological measurement apparatus may be transmitted in a URL or HTTP Cookie of an HTTP request.

Claims

1. A health kiosk system comprising:

a server having a Web server; and

a kiosk communicatively coupled to the server, the kiosk comprising;

a computing unit, at least one physiological measurement apparatus connected to the computing unit, and a display,

wherein the computing unit has a Web browser configured to;

transmit profile information indicative of a profile of the kiosk to the Web server, the profile comprising information corresponding to the at least one physiological measurement apparatus; and

transmit a request for a resource to the Web server, and

wherein the Web server is configured to, in response to receiving the profile information and the request, transmit to the kiosk profile-specific Web content responsive to the request and based at least in part on the profile information.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the Web content, when rendered by the Web browser, provides a display element corresponding to one of the at least one physiological measurement apparatus.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the display element is associated with a control for accessing instructions for use of the one of the at least one physiological measurement apparatus.

4. The system of claim 2 wherein the display element is associated with a control for operating the one of the at least one physiological measurement apparatus to acquire a physiological measurement from a user.

The system of claim 1 wherein the profile comprises logical affiliation information indicating at least one logical affiliation of the kiosk, and the Web content, when rendered by the Web browser, provides a display element corresponding to one of the at least one logical affiliation of the kiosk.

The system of claim 1 wherein the kiosk comprises a user identification apparatus, the profile comprises information corresponding to the user identification apparatus, and the Web content, when rendered by the Web browser, provides a display element corresponding to the user identification apparatus.

The system of claim 1 wherein the computing unit is configured to detect connections of physiological measurement apparatus, and upon detecting a connection of a physiological measurement apparatus, update the profile information to include information corresponding to the physiological measurement apparatus for which the connection was detected.

8. The system of claim 7 wherein the computing unit is configured to obtain from the server at least one of a configuration parameter and a software component for configuring the physiological measurement apparatus for which the connection was detected.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein the Web server is configured to provide an administrative interface operable to specify aspects of Web content to be provided in response to requests based at least in part on particular profile information.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein the Web browser is configured to transmit the profile information in a HTTP request.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein the HTTP request comprises a HTTP cookie containing the profile information.

12. The system of claim 11 wherein the server is configured to cause the Web browser to set the HTTP cookie at least in part by:

receiving the profile information in a URL of an initial HTTP request transmitted by the Web browser, and

transmitting an HTTP response including a Set-Cookie field that contains the HTTP cookie.

13. The system of claim 11 wherein the computing unit is configured to set the HTTP cookie locally.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the computing unit is configured to:

autonomously obtain profile information from a local source of profile information; and

set the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained profile information.

15. The system of claim 13 where the computing unit is configured to set the HTTP cookie on boot-up.

16. The system of claim 14 wherein the computing unit is configured to monitor the local source of profile information and, when a change in the local source profile information is detected, autonomously obtain updated profile information from the local source of profile information and set the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained updated profile information.

17. The system of claim 13 wherein the computing unit is configured to:

obtain profile information entered manually at the kiosk; and

set the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the manually entered profile information.

18. The system of claim 10 wherein the HTTP request comprises a URL containing the profile information.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the URL identifies a static resource associated with the profile information.

20. The system of claim 18 wherein the URL identifies a dynamic resource associated with the profile information.

21. A health kiosk comprising:

a computing unit;

a display; and

at least one physiological measurement apparatus connected to the computing unit;

wherein the computing unit has a Web browser configured to;

transmit profile information indicative of a profile of the kiosk to a particular Web server, the profile comprising information corresponding to the at least one physiological measurement apparatus,

transmit a request for a resource to the particular Web server, and

render Web content received in response to the request for display on the display.

22. The kiosk of claim 21 wherein the web browser is configured to transmit the profile information in a HTTP request comprising a HTTP cookie containing the profile information and wherein the computing unit is configured to set the HTTP cookie locally.

23. The kiosk of claim 22 wherein the computing unit is configured to:

autonomously obtain profile information from a local source of profile information; and

set the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained profile information.

24. The kiosk of claim 22 wherein the computing unit is configured to set the HTTP cookie on boot-up.

25. The kiosk of claim 23 wherein the computing unit is configured to monitor the local source of profile information and, when a change in the local source profile information is detected, autonomously obtain updated profile information from the local source of profile information and set the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained updated profile information.

26. A method in a health kiosk system including kiosk having at least one physiological measurement apparatus and a server, the method comprising:

transmitting from the kiosk to the server profile information indicative of a profile of the kiosk, the profile comprising information corresponding to the at least one physiological measurement apparatus;

transmitting from the kiosk to the server a request for a resource; and

in response to receiving the profile information and the request, transmitting from the server to the kiosk profile-specific Web content responsive to the request and based at least in part on the profile information.

27. The method of claim 26 comprising:

transmitting the profile information in a HTTP request comprising a HTTP cookie that contains the profile information; and

setting the HTTP cookie locally.

28. The method of claim 27 comprising:

autonomously obtaining profile information from a local source of profile information; and

setting the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained profile information.

29. The method of claim 27 wherein setting the HTTP cookie locally is performed on boot-up of the kiosk.

30. The method of claim 28 comprising, following a change in profile information of the local source of profile information, autonomously obtaining updated profile information from the local source of profile information and setting the HTTP cookie based at least in part on the autonomously obtained updated profile information.
