Abstract

A stent in a non-expanded state has a first and second expansion column, each consisting of a plurality of expansion strut pairs. An expansion strut pair includes a first expansion strut, a second expansion strut and a joining strut that couples the first and second expansion struts at one end. Expansion strut pairs include expansion strut pair first and second corners formed where the joining strut couples the first and second expansion struts. A connecting strut column, formed of a plurality of connecting struts couples the first and second expansion columns. Connecting struts include a proximal section, a distal section and an intermediate section. The proximal section is coupled to the corner of an expansion strut pair of the first expansion column, and the distal section is coupled to the joining strut of an expansion strut pair of the second expansion column intermediate the expansion strut pair first corner and the expansion strut pair second corner.

Claims

1. A stent comprising a plurality of interconnected struts, the plurality of interconnected struts comprising a plurality of first struts and a plurality of second struts, the second struts being narrower than the first struts, the plurality of first struts forming a plurality of first bands, each first band having a zig-zag shape and extending about an entire circumference of the stent, longitudinally adjacent first bands interconnected by the plurality of second struts.

2. The stent of claim 1, each second strut having a first end and a second end, the first end longitudinally and circumferentially displaced from the second end.

3. The stent of claim 2, each second strut having at least two bends.

4. The stent of claim 3, each of the at least two bends being curved.

5. The stent of claim 3, each second strut extending from a turn of one first band to a turn of an adjacent first band.

6. The stent of claim 5, wherein the turn of the one first band and the turn of the adjacent first band face opposite directions.

7. The stent of claim 1, two of the plurality of first bands having a zig-zag shape forming ends of the stent.

8. A stent comprising a plurality of longitudinally adjacent columns, each column formed of a plurality of interconnected struts, the plurality of columns including first columns and second columns, the struts of a first column each having a first width, the struts of a second column each having a second width less than the first width.

9. The stent of claim 8, each strut of a second column being curvilinear.

10. The stent of claim 8, one second column engaging two adjacent first columns, the struts of the second column extending between a turn of one first column and a turn of the other first column.

11. The stent of claim 10, each strut of the second column having at least two bends.

12. The stent of claim 11, each strut having a first end and a second end, the first end longitudinally and circumferentially displaced from the second end.

13. The stent of claim 10, the turn of the one first column and the turn of the other first column facing opposite directions.

14. The stent of claim 8, each first column having a first longitudinal width and each second column having a second longitudinal width less than the first longitudinal width.
