Abstract

A storage rack system is provided that includes an improved cross bar attachment to create the framing for storage shelves. The cross bars are locked or secured against undesired movement and rolling to create a shelf that properly supports loads. The cross bars extend between the deck beams such that flanges at the ends thereof overlap the top of the deck beams. The flanges include a tab that extends downwardly to engage with an opening on the top of the deck beams. The lateral support further includes a stabilizer that is fastened to the side wall of the deck beams to prevent rolling or dislodgement of either member.

Claims

1. A support frame for a shelf assembly comprising:

a pair of rear vertical spaced supports;

a pair of opposed, spaced front vertical supports;

a front and rear deck beam extending between and supported by each of the front and rear vertical supports respectively, said deck beams having openings in a top surface thereof; and

at least one cross bar extending between said front and rear deck beams, said cross bar having a top flange at front and rear ends thereof that extend onto the tops of the front and rear deck beams, said top flanges having tabs that extend downwardly into said openings, and an arm at said front and rear ends that is fastened to a side surface of said front and rear deck beams.

The support frame of claim 1, wherein front and rear vertical supports include a plurality of openings therein, said front and rear deck beams including mating formations to engage with at least one of said plurality of openings in each of said vertical supports, thereby allowing the height of said deck beams to be adjustable relative to said vertical supports.

3. The support frame of claim 1, further comprising a sheeting material installed on and supported by said deck beams and said cross bar.

4. The support frame of claim 3, wherein said sheeting material is a wire mesh sheet.

5. The support frame of claim 1, wherein said arm includes a flange with an opening therein and said side surface of said deck beams includes a corresponding opening to allow a fastener to be installed therethrough to fasten said arms to said deck beams.

6. The support frame of claim 1, further comprising:

at least one diagonal support extending between and fastened to each of said front and rear vertical supports.

The support frame of claim 1, wherein said top surface of said front and rear deck beam have a recessed lip formed along an edge thereof, said openings formed on said lip, said top flange at front and rear ends of said cross bars extending onto the lip, said top flanges having tabs that extend downwardly into said openings, and an arm at said front and rear ends that is fastened to a side surface of said front and rear deck beams.

8. The support frame of claim 7, further comprising a sheeting material installed on and supported by said deck beams and said cross bar.

9. The support frame of claim 8, wherein said sheeting material is a wire mesh sheet.

10. The support frame of claim 8, wherein said sheeting material is supported such that a top surface of said sheeting material is flush with said top surface of said deck beams.

11. A cross bar for a support frame for a shelf assembly including, a pair of rear vertical spaced supports, a pair of opposed, spaced front vertical supports, front and rear deck beams extending between and supported by each of the front and rear vertical supports respectively, said deck beams having openings in a top surface thereof, said cross bar comprising:

at least one cross bar having a top flange at front and rear ends thereof that extend onto the tops of front and rear deck beams, said top flanges having tabs that extend downwardly into said openings, and an arm at said front and rear ends that is fastened to a side surface of said front and rear deck beams.

12. The cross bar of claim 11, wherein said arm includes a flange with an opening therein and a side surface of said deck beams includes a corresponding opening to allow a fastener to be installed therethrough to fasten said arms to said deck beams.

The cross bar claim 11, wherein said top surface of said front and rear deck beam have a recessed lip formed along an edge thereof, said openings formed on said lip, said top flange at front and rear ends of said cross bars extending onto the lip, said top flanges having tabs that extend downwardly into said openings, and an arm at said front and rear ends that is fastened to a side surface of said front and rear deck beams.

14. The cross bar claim 13, further comprising a sheeting material installed on and supported by said deck beams and said cross bar.

15. The cross bar claim 14, wherein said sheeting material is a wire mesh sheet.

16. The support frame of claim 13, wherein said sheeting material is supported such that a top surface of said sheeting material is flush with said top surface of said deck beams.
