1. A golf GPS device, comprising:

  • a GPS chipset to determine the geographic position of the golf GPS device on a golf course, the GPS unit receiving signals from a plurality of GPS satellites in order to determine the geographic position of the golf GPS device;

    a storage device to store a plurality of images of golf courses and golf course data including positional data for a plurality of golf course features;

    a display for displaying an image of the plurality of images of golf courses and a positional data;

    a microprocessor configured to detect a standby condition wherein the standby condition is less than three yards of movement of the golf GPS device as determined by the GPS unit, and upon detecting the standby condition, entering a standby mode in which the power is deactivated for the microprocessor, the display, and the storage device.
