Abstract

An apparatus comprising a controller, wherein said controller is arranged to receive touch input identifying an original string; receive a multi-touch input gesture comprising a first and a second touch point in which a distance between a first touch point and a second touch point is changed and to replace said identified original string with a replacement string in response thereto.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising at least one processor, and at least one memory including a computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to, receive touch input identifying an original string;

receive a multi-touch input gesture comprising a first and a second touch point in which a distance between a first touch point and a second touch point is changed and replace said identified original string with a replacement string in response thereto.

An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said replacement string has a second length and said original string has a first length and said first length is shorter than the second length if the distance is increased and wherein said replacement string is a phrase and said original string is an abbreviation.

An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said replacement string has a second length and said original string has a first length and said first length is longer than the second length if the distance is decreased and wherein said replacement string is an abbreviation and said original string is a phrase.

4. An apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said original string comprise at least one partial string which are separated by a space character and wherein said controller is configured to parse said original string for initial letters of said partial strings;

to generate a new string comprising the parsed initial letters; and

to identify said new string as the replacement string.

5. An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said controller is configured to store said new string and said original string as a string replacement pair.

An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said controller is configured to store original string and said replacement string in a string replacement pair in a database and wherein said controller is configured to search said database for a matching string replacement pair using said original string as a search key.

7. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said touch input and said multi-touch input is the same input.

8. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said original string starts at a first touch point and ends at a second touch point.

10. A computer readable medium comprising at least computer program code for controlling an apparatus, said computer readable medium comprising:

software code for receiving a touch input identifying an original string;

software code for receiving a multi-touch input gesture comprising a first and a second touch point in which a distance between a first touch point and a second touch point is changed and software code for replacing said identified original string with a replacement string in response thereto.

11. A method comprising:

receiving touch input identifying an original string;

receiving a multi-touch input gesture comprising a first and a second touch point in which a distance between a first touch point and a second touch point is changed and replacing said identified original string with a replacement string in response thereto.

A method according to claim 11, wherein said replacement string has a second length and said original string has a first length and said first length is shorter than the second length if the distance is increased and wherein said replacement string is a phrase and said original string is an abbreviation.

13. A method according to claim 11, wherein said replacement string has a second length and said original string has a first length and said first length is longer than the second length if the distance is decreased and wherein said replacement string is an abbreviation and said original string is a phrase.

14. A method according to claim 11, wherein said original string comprise at least one partial string which are separated by a space character and wherein said method further comprises parsing said original string for initial letters of said partial strings;

generating a new string comprising the parsed initial letters; and

identifying said new string as the replacement string.

15. A method according to claim 14 further comprising storing said new string and said original string as a string replacement pair.

16. A method according to claim 11 further comprising storing said original string and said replacement string in a string replacement pair in a database and searching said database for a matching string replacement pair using said original string as a search key.

17. A method according to claim 11, wherein said touch input and said multi-touch input is the same input.

18. A method according to claim 11, wherein said original string starts at a first touch point and ends at a second touch point.
