Abstract

A secure payment method includes receiving, at a computer of a payment service, a request from a requester for a one time use transaction identification token for a transaction. The one time use transaction identification token is provided from the payment service computer to the requester. The one time use transaction identification token is received at the payment service from a merchant communications apparatus under the control of a merchant. Electronic payment information for the transaction is issued from the payment service to the merchant upon validating the one time use transaction identification token.

Claims

1. A secure payment method, comprising:

receiving, at a computer of a payment service, a request from a requester for a one time use transaction identification token for a transaction;

providing, from the payment service computer, the one time use transaction identification token to the requester;

receiving, at the payment service from a merchant communications apparatus under the control of a merchant, the one time use transaction identification token; and

issuing, from the payment service to the merchant, electronic payment information for the transaction upon validating the one time use transaction identification token.

2. The secure payment method of claim 1,

wherein the merchant communications apparatus provides an interactive voice response service for the merchant.

3. The secure payment method of claim 2,

wherein the merchant communications apparatus receives a call from the requester, requests authentication information and a payment from the requester, receives from the requester the one time use transaction identification token, receives from the requester the authentication information, and transmits the one time use transaction identification token back to the payment service.

4. The secure payment method of claim 1, further comprising:

providing, from the payment service computer to the requester, a payment service identification number token that identifies the payment service,

wherein the merchant communications apparatus receives from the requester the payment service identification number.

5. The secure payment method according to claim 1,

wherein the requester uses a requester communications device to call both the merchant communications apparatus and to request the one time use transaction identification token from the payment service.

6. The secure payment method according to claim 5,

wherein the requester communications device communicates with the payment service via a data network.

7. The secure payment method according to claim 1, further comprising:

establishing, by the payment service, a link to a financial partner that provides the payment service with the electronic payment information.

8. The secure payment method according to claim 1, further comprising:

providing, by the payment service, an applet to the requester to install on a requester communications device for communications with the payment service.

9. The secure payment method according to claim 1, further comprising:

authenticating, by the payment service, the requester before providing the one time use transaction identification token to the requester.

10. The secure payment method according to claim 9, further comprising:

receiving, by the payment service from the requester, a monetary amount to authorize for payment to the merchant.

11. The secure payment method according to claim 10, further comprising:

receiving, by the payment service from the requester, a communications address of the merchant communications apparatus.

12. The secure payment method according to claim 1,

wherein communications between the payment service and the requester occur in a secure session over a data network.

13. The secure payment method according to claim 1,

wherein the payment service provides the one time use transaction identification token to the requester while the requester communicates with the merchant communications apparatus.

14. The secure payment method according to claim 13,

wherein the payment service receives the one time use transaction identification token from the merchant while the requester communicates with the merchant communications apparatus.

15. The secure payment method according to claim 1,

wherein the electronic payment information comprises an electronic payment confirmation.

16. A payment service computer of a secure payment system, comprising:

a memory that stores executable instructions for the secure payment system; and

a processor that executes the executable instructions,

wherein the payment service computer receives a request from a requester for a one time use transaction identification token for a transaction,

wherein, when executed by the processor, the instructions cause the payment service computer to provide the one time use transaction identification token to the requester,

wherein the payment service computer receives the one time use transaction identification token from a merchant communications apparatus under the control of a merchant, and

wherein the payment service issues to the merchant electronic payment information for the transaction upon validating the one time use transaction identification token.

17. The payment service computer of claim 16,

wherein the payment service computer communicates with a requester communications device via a data network.

18. The payment service computer of claim 17,

wherein the secure payment system establishes a link between the payment service computer and a financial partner that provides the payment service with electronic payment information.

19. The payment service computer of claim 17,

wherein an applet installed on the requester communications device is used to communicate with the payment service computer.

20. A non-transitory computer readable medium for providing secure payments, the medium comprising:

a request receiving code segment that receives, at a payment service computer with a processor and a memory, a request from a requester for a one time use transaction identification token for a transaction;

a token providing code segment that provides, from the payment service computer, the one time use transaction identification token to the requester;

a token receiving code segment that receives, at the payment service from a merchant communications apparatus under the control of a merchant, the one time use transaction identification token; and

an electronic payment information issuing code segment that issues, from the payment service to the merchant, electronic payment information for the transaction upon validating the one time use transaction identification token.
