Abstract

Systems and methods provide feedback to at least one participant in a field of play. A performance analysis device determines performance information of each participant in the field of play, where the performance information is based upon at least one of determined location, speed, path, acceleration and biometrics of said each participant. At least one output device provides real-time feedback to the at least one participant based upon the performance information. The real-time feedback comprises performance information of the at least one participant and/or performance information of one or more other participants in the field of play.

Claims

1. A system for providing feedback to at least one of a plurality of participants in a real field of play, comprising:

a performance analysis device for determining performance information of each participant in the real field of play, the performance information based upon at least one of determined location, speed, path, acceleration and biometrics of the participant; and

at least one output device for providing real-time feedback to the at least one participant based upon the performance information.

2. The system of claim 1, the biometrics comprising one or more of body temperature at one or more locations, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, hydration level, respiratory rate, perspiration salinity level, and blood sugar levels.

3. The system of claim 1, the real-time feedback comprising performance information of the at least one participant in the real field of play.

4. The system of claim 1, the real-time feedback comprising, for each of the participants, a desired performance of the participant.

5. The system of claim 4, the desired performance comprising at least one of a desired path and a desired speed for the participant.

6. The system of claim 1, the real-time feedback provided to each participant comprising (a) performance information of said each participant and (b) performance information of at least one other participant in the real field of play.

7. The system of claim 6, the real-time feedback of at least one other participant comprising location and speed of said other participant relative to said each participant.

8. The system of claim 6, the performance information of the at least one other participant comprising a distress level.

9. The system of claim 6, the feedback of the at least one other participant comprising indication of compliance or non-compliance with desired criteria.

10. The system of claim 1, the output device comprising a display for displaying the feedback to the participants.

11. The system of claim 10, the display comprising a plurality of heads-up displays, each heads-up display worn by one of the participants.

12. The system of claim 11, the real-time feedback of each heads-up display indicating when desired performance criteria are met.

13. The system of claim 11, the real-time feedback comprising a desired route that is projected in front of the participant.

14. The system of claim 13, the real-time feedback comprising desired speed and actual speed of the participant on the route.

15. The system of claim 14, the actual speed being displayed in a first color if the participant'"'"'s speed is faster than the desired speed and the actual speed being displayed in a second color if the participant'"'"'s speed is slower than the desired speed.

16. The system of claim 11, the feedback comprising visual simulation of at least one participant based upon previously recorded information.

17. The system of claim 1, the output device comprising an audio system co-located with each of the participants, the feedback comprising an audio signal.

18. The system of claim 17, the audio signal comprising a stereo tone wherein left and right volume of the tone indicates a corresponding direction to be followed by the athlete.

19. The system of claim 17, the audio signal comprising a tone having a beeping frequency that conveys desired speed of the participant.

20. The system of claim 17, the audio signal comprising a tone having a beeping frequency that conveys situational pressure to the participant.

21. The system of claim 1, the output device comprising at least one wirelessly controlled actuator co-located with each of the participants for providing tangible feedback.

22. A system for providing feedback to a leader of a plurality of participants in a real field of play, comprising:

a performance analysis device for determining performance information of each of the participants within the real field of play, the performance information based upon at least one of determined location, speed, path, acceleration and biometrics of said each participant; and

an output device for providing real-time feedback to the leader based upon the performance information.

23. The system of claim 22, further comprising:

a recording device for storing profile data for each of the participants; and

a performance monitor for evaluating the performance information and the profile data to predict one or both of performance and fatigue of the participants.

24. The system of claim 22, the output device comprising a display wirelessly connected to the performance analysis device for receiving the feedback.

25. The system of claim 24, the output device further comprising an input device for receiving input from the leader to control the feedback from the performance analysis device.

26. The system of claim 22, the leader comprising a coach or instructor of the participants.

27. A method for providing feedback to at least one of a plurality of participants in a real field of play, comprising:

determining successive locations of the participant within a real operational field;

determining performance of the participant based upon the successive locations; and

providing real-time feedback to the participant based upon the determined performance.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the determined performance comprises at least one of location, velocity, acceleration, and agility.

29. The method of claim 27, further comprising generating one or both of audio and visual signals as the feedback.

30. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

generating the visual signals that simulate other participants in the real field of play based upon recorded performance of the participants; and

displaying the visual signals in heads-up-display worn by the participant.

31. The method of claim 30, further comprising simulating situational pressure placed upon the participant by visually emulating pressure in the form of a pressure graph and/or opponent position.

32. A system for providing feedback to at least one participant in a real field of play, comprising:

a performance analysis device for determining performance information of each participant in the real field of play, the performance information based upon at least one of determined speed, path, acceleration, blood oxygen levels, hydration level, respiratory rate, perspiration salinity level and blood sugar level of said each participant; and

at least one output device for providing real-time feedback to the at least one participant based upon the performance information.

33. The system of claim 32, wherein the real-time feedback comprises performance information of the at least one participant and/or performance information of one or more other participants in the real field of play.
