Abstract

The present invention provides devices, methods, and systems for coupling a rational agent to a quantum process. In particular, the present invention provides rational agents configured to influence a quantum process, or to derive information from a quantum process, and methods and uses thereof.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

(a) an amplified quantum process; and

(b) a rational agent, wherein said rational agent is not an intact human or animal;

wherein said rational agent is configured to make selections between two or more choices;

wherein said selection is at least partially based upon output from said amplified quantum process; and

wherein said rational agent exerts intent on said amplified quantum process, thereby altering the output of said amplified quantum process.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein said intent comprises intent to select a specific choice and/or a choice that produces a specific outcome.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein said rational agent is capable of ranking said choices according to their desirability to said rational agent.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein said intent of said rational agent increases the likelihood of said rational agent selecting a more desirable choice.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein said rational agent is incapable of ranking choices according to said desirability.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein said intent of said rational agent increases the likelihood of said rational agent selecting a more desirable choice.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein said rational agent is selected from:

a decision-making computer program;

virtual ecology;

neural network;

genetic algorithm;

cellular automation;

distributed agent system;

optimization system;

learning system;

natural language processing engine;

semantic processing system;

probabilistic classifier;

Boltzmann machine;

biological agent;

or a ecological, social, economic, or cellular simulation system.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein said amplified quantum process is selected from:

biological systems, quantum random number generators, detectors of radioactivity, superconductive devices, amplifiers of quantum electronics effects, and systems that depend on many choices made by populations of biological agents or other complex dynamical systems subject to nonlinear behavior and amplification of small differences in initial state.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein said output from said amplified quantum process is provided as a binary bitstream of data.

10. A method of altering the output of an amplified quantum process comprising the system of claim 1.

11. A system comprising:

(a) an amplified quantum process; and

(b) a rational agent, wherein said rational agent is not an intact human or animal;

wherein said rational agent is configured to make a selection between two or more choices and said rational agent is unable to determine which of said choices is optimal;

wherein said selection is at least partially based upon output from said amplified quantum process;

wherein said goal-seeking agent exerts intent on said amplified quantum process; and

wherein said amplified quantum process supplies said rational agent with output that increases the likelihood of said rational agent selecting the optimal choice.

12. The system of claim 11, and wherein said amplified quantum process supplies said rational agent with output that results in said rational agent selecting the optimal choice.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein said output comprises two or more types of bits, and said choice is made by said rational agent based on the identity or pattern of bits supplied by amplified quantum process.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein said rational agent is unaware of one or more of (i) which type of bit or pattern of bits will result in said rational agent selecting the optimal choice, or (ii) which choice is the optimal choice.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein said quantum process is selected from:

biological systems, quantum random number generators, detectors of radioactivity, superconductive devices, amplifiers of quantum electronics effects, and systems that depend on many choices made by populations of biological agents or other complex dynamical systems subject to nonlinear behavior and amplification of small differences in initial state.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein said rational agent is selected from:

a decision-making computer program;

virtual ecology;

neural network;

genetic algorithm;

cellular automation;

distributed agent system;

optimization system;

learning system;

natural language processing engine;

semantic processing system;

probabilistic classifier;

Boltzmann machine;

biological agent;

or a ecological, social, economic, or cellular simulation system.

17. A method of optimizing performance of a rational agent comprising the system of claim 11.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein said control output comprises output from said quantum process detected prior to and/or in the absence of decision making by said test agent.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein said control output comprises output from a non-quantum process detected during and/or following decision making by said test agent.

18. A method for identifying agents capable of intent comprising:

a) providing;

i) a quantum process, wherein said quantum process produces a detectable output;

ii) a test agent, wherein said test agent is configured to depend upon said detectable output of said quantum process to make a decision between 2 or more outcomes;

b) allowing said test agent to receive said output from said quantum process wherein said test agent does not provide feedback to said quantum process;

c) detecting test output from said quantum process during and/or following decision making by said test agent;

d) comparing said test output from said quantum process with a control output; and

e) identifying said test agent as capable of intent if said test output differs from said control output
