Abstract

Systems and methods for moving a display during a device flip are provided. More particularly, in response to input or instructions selecting a secondary closed mode, operation of the device can be altered from a normal operating mode. In the secondary closed mode, when a device is moved from an open mode or state to a closed mode or state, the active window while the device was in the open mode is presented by a secondary screen, rather than a primary screen. The secondary closed mode is exited when the device is again placed in an open state or mode.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a display of a window on a device, comprising:

presenting a first window by a primary screen of a multiple screen device, while the device is in an open mode;

receiving user input closing the device, thereby placing the device in a closed mode;

in response to the device being placed in the single screen mode, entering a secondary closed mode, wherein the first window is presented by a secondary screen of the multiple screen device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to the device entering the secondary closed mode, discontinuing the presentation of the first window by the primary screen.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

in response to the device entering the secondary closed mode, displaying an instruction on the primary screen.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the displaying an instruction is discontinued after a predetermined period of time.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the instruction is to turn the device over so that the secondary screen is in view of the user.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein entering the secondary closed mode in response to the device being placed in the closed mode is performed in accordance with application instructions associated with the first window.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein entering the secondary closed mode in response to the device being placed in the closed mode is performed in accordance with a user input directing that the first window be presented by the secondary screen.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein while presenting the first window by a primary screen the first window is associated with a first set of windows, and wherein in response to entering the secondary closed mode the first window is associated with a second set of windows.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

after entering the secondary closed mode, receiving user input placing the device in the open mode, wherein the first window continues to be displayed by the secondary screen.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the user input placing the device in the open mode after entering the secondary screen mode discontinues the secondary closed mode.

11. A device, comprising:

at least first and second screens;

a hinge interconnecting the first and second screens;

memory;

a processor in communication with the at least first and second screens and the memory;

application programming stored in the memory and executed by the processor, wherein the application programming is operable to;

maintain at least a first and second sets of windows, wherein the first and second sets of windows are stored in the memory, wherein the first set of windows is associated with at least a first window and is associated with the first screen, and wherein the second set of windows is associated with at least a second window and is associated with the second screen;

present the first window in the first screen while the device is in an initial, open state;

receive a first user input, wherein the first user input includes the user placing the device in a closed state;

in response to the device being placed in the closed state, enter a secondary closed mode, wherein the first window is presented by a secondary screen of the device.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the application programming is further operable to display an instruction on the primary screen in response to the device entering the secondary closed mode.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein the application programming is further operable to disassociate the first window from the first set of windows and to associate the first window with the second set of windows.

14. The device of claim 11, further comprising:

a position sensor, wherein the application programming is further operable to detect the mode of the device in response to a signal from the position sensor.

15. The device of claim 11, further comprising:

at least one of a touch sensitive display area or a gesture capture area included in at least the second screen, wherein the application programming is further operable to display a second window included in the second set of windows in response to a window management operation received through one of the touch sensitive display area or the gesture capture area included in the second screen that dismisses the first window.

16. A computer readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, the computer executable instructions causing a processor to execute a method for controlling a user interface of a device, the computer-executable instructions comprising:

instructions to present a first window by a primary screen of the device, while the device is in an open mode;

instructions to detect receive user input closing the device, thereby placing the device in a closed mode;

in response to the device being placed in the closed mode, instructions to enter a secondary closed mode, wherein the first window is presented by a secondary screen of the device.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16, further comprising:

instructions to maintain a first set of windows, wherein the first window is maintained in the first set of windows while the device is in the open mode;

instructions to maintain a second set of windows, wherein the first window is maintained in the second set of windows and not in the first set of windows while the device is in the secondary closed mode.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 17, the computer executable instructions further comprising:

instructions to present a second window in the secondary screen of the device in response to a windowing management input instructing that the presentation of the first window by the secondary screen be discontinued, wherein the second window is maintained in the second set of windows.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 18, the computer executable instructions further comprising:

instructions to continue to display the first window in the secondary screen of the device in response to user input returning the device to the open mode.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 19, wherein after the device is returned to the open mode the first window continues to be maintained in the second set of windows.
