Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to methodologies and devices for handling maximizing and minimizing of exposé views.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by processor executable middleware in a multi-display communication device, a command to at least one of minimize and maximize an exposé

view, the exposé

view comprising a primary exposé

view and a secondary exposé

view at least one of displayed and to be displayed by different touch sensitive displays;

applying, by the processor executable middleware, the following rules;

(B1) when the exposé

view is to be minimized, selecting a predetermined touch sensitive display for displaying the primary exposé

view and ceasing to display the secondary exposé

view; and

(B2) when the exposé

view is to be maximized, selecting a predetermined touch sensitive display for displaying the primary exposé

view and causing the secondary exposé

view to be displayed on the other touch sensitive display.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein rule (B2) applies.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the secondary exposé

view appears to move from under the primary exposé

view in the predetermined touch sensitive display to the other touch sensitive display.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is not in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, wherein the primary exposé

view moves from the other touch sensitive display to the predetermined touch sensitive display, thereby uncovering the secondary exposé

view for display by the other touch sensitive display.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the multi-display communication device is in the portrait display mode and wherein the predetermined touch sensitive display is the left-most touch sensitive display.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the multi-display communication device is in the landscape display mode and wherein the predetermined touch sensitive display is the top-most touch sensitive display.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the secondary exposé

view is not permitted to be displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display and wherein the secondary exposé

view is not permitted to be displayed in the absence of concurrent display of the primary exposé

view.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the primary and secondary exposé

views display at least one of the following;

all open and unhidden windows;

all open and unhidden windows for a selected currently active application; and

an overview of all currently active applications and groups windows from a common application.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein rule (B1) applies.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the secondary exposé

view appears to move from the other touch sensitive display to slide behind the primary exposé

view displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the secondary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the primary exposé

view appears to move from the other touch sensitive display to cover the primary exposé

view displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display.

12. A non-transient and tangible computer readable medium comprising processor executable instructions to perform the steps of claim 1.

13. A communication device, comprising:

at least first and second touch sensitive displays to display windows;

a processor; and

a computer readable memory, the computer readable memory comprising processor executable middleware operable to;

receive a command to at least one of minimize and maximize an exposé

view, the exposé

view comprising a primary exposé

view and a secondary exposé

view at least one of displayed and to be displayed by different touch sensitive displays;

apply the following rules;

(i) when the exposé

view is to be minimized, selecting a predetermined touch sensitive display for displaying the primary exposé

view and ceasing to display the secondary exposé

view on the other touch sensitive display; and

(ii) when the exposé

view is to be maximized, selecting a predetermined touch sensitive display for displaying the primary exposé

view and causing the secondary exposé

view to be displayed on the other touch sensitive display.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein rule (ii) applies.

15. The device of claim 14, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the secondary exposé

view appears to move from under the primary exposé

view in the predetermined touch sensitive display to the other touch sensitive display.

16. The device of claim 14, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is not in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, wherein the primary exposé

view moves from the other touch sensitive display to the predetermined touch sensitive display, thereby uncovering the secondary exposé

view for display by the other touch sensitive display.

17. The device of claim 13, wherein the multi-display communication device is in the portrait display mode and wherein the predetermined touch sensitive display is the left-most touch sensitive display.

18. The device of claim 13, wherein the multi-display communication device is in the landscape display mode and wherein the predetermined touch sensitive display is the top-most touch sensitive display.

19. The device of claim 13, wherein the secondary exposé

view is not permitted to be displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display and wherein the secondary exposé

view is not permitted to be displayed in the absence of concurrent display of the primary exposé

view.

20. The device of claim 13, wherein the primary and secondary exposé

views display at least one of the following;

all open and unhidden windows;

all open and unhidden windows for a selected currently active application; and

an overview of all currently active applications and groups windows from a common application.

21. The device of claim 13, wherein rule (i) applies.

22. The device of claim 21, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the primary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the secondary exposé

view appears to move from the other touch sensitive display to slide behind the primary exposé

view displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display.

23. The device of claim 21, wherein the command is a drag or a flick, wherein the secondary exposé

view is in the predetermined touch sensitive display when the gesture is received, and wherein the primary exposé

view appears to move from the other touch sensitive display to cover the primary exposé

view displayed in the predetermined touch sensitive display.
