1. A computer-implemented system for tagging a parking space for a motor vehicle through a gesture, comprising:

  • a server managing a multiplicity of motor vehicle parking spaces through a server, the server comprising a memory and a processor operatively coupled to the memory and configured to execute computer executable program modules;

    a plurality of smart parking devices that are each physically proximate to least one of the parking spaces;

    a plurality of vehicle occupancy sensors that are also each physically proximate to least one of the parking spaces; and

    a plurality of parking availability indicators that are each associated with at least one of the parking spaces; and

    a reservations module executed by the server reserving use of one of the parking spaces by a motorist, comprising;

    an identification module identifying to a driver of a motor vehicle those parking spaces that are unoccupied based on their respective vehicle occupancy sensors and currently available over any other reservations stored in the server;

    a gesture recognition module reserving one of the unoccupied parking spaces upon a gesture provided by the driver;

    an occupancy module sensing occupancy of the reserved unoccupied parking space through the nearest vehicle occupancy sensor following parking of the motor vehicle; and

    a verification module verifying the identity of the motorist against the reservation through the nearest smart parking device.
