Abstract

A system and method are described which enable planned evolution and obsolescence of multiuser wireless spectrum. One embodiment of such a system includes one or multiple centralized processors and one or multiple distributed nodes that communicate via wireline or wireless connections. The distributed nodes may share their identification number and other reconfigurable system parameters with the centralized processor. The information about all distributed nodes may be stored in a database that is shared by all centralized processors. The reconfigurable system parameters may comprise power emission, frequency band, modulation/coding scheme. The distributed nodes may be software defined radios such as FPGA, DSP, GPU and/or GPCPU that run algorithms for baseband signal processing and may be reconfigured remotely by the centralized processor. A cloud wireless system may be used wherein the distributed nodes are reconfigured periodically or instantly to adjust to the evolving wireless architecture.

Claims

1. A system that enables planned evolution and obsolescence of multiuser wireless spectrum comprising:

one or multiple centralized processors communicatively coupled to one another; and

one or multiple distributed nodes communicatively coupled to the centralized processors over wireline or wireless connections, the CPs dynamically adjusting the configuration of the distributed nodes according to evolving network architecture designs.

2. The system in claim 1, wherein the distributed nodes share their identification numbers and other reconfigurable system parameters with the centralized processor.

3. The system in claim 2, wherein the information about all distributed nodes is stored in a database that is shared by all centralized processors.

4. The system in claim 2, wherein the reconfigurable system parameters comprise power emission, frequency band, modulation/coding scheme.

5. The system in claim 1, wherein the distributed nodes are software defined radios.

6. The system in claim 5, wherein the software defined radio comprise FPGA, DSP, GPU and/or GPCPU that run algorithms for baseband signal processing

7. The system in claim 6, wherein the software defined radios are reconfigured remotely by the centralized processor.

8. The system in claim 1, wherein the distributed nodes are reconfigured periodically or instantly as a cloud wireless system to adjust to evolving wireless architectures.

9. A method that enables planned evolution and obsolescence of multiuser wireless spectrum comprising:

communicatively coupling one or multiple centralized processors to one another; and

communicatively coupling one or multiple distributed nodes to the centralized processors over wireline or wireless connections, the CPs dynamically adjusting the configuration of the distributed nodes according to evolving network architecture designs.

10. The method in claim 9, wherein the distributed nodes share their identification numbers and other reconfigurable system parameters with the centralized processor.

11. The method in claim 10, wherein the information about all distributed nodes is stored in a database that is shared by all centralized processors.

12. The method in claim 10, wherein the reconfigurable system parameters comprise power emission, frequency band, modulation/coding scheme.

13. The method in claim 9, wherein the distributed nodes are software defined radios.

14. The method in claim 13, wherein the software defined radio comprise FPGA, DSP, GPU and/or GPCPU that run algorithms for baseband signal processing

15. The method in claim 14, wherein the software defined radios are reconfigured remotely by the centralized processor.

16. The method in claim 9, wherein the distributed nodes are reconfigured periodically or instantly as a cloud wireless system to adjust to evolving wireless architectures.
