Abstract

A method, data processing system, and computer program product for managing search results. The data processing system displays search results in a graphical user interface. The data processing system displays, concurrent with the display of the search results, a moveable graphical control in the graphical user interface. The data processing system changes a level of detail for the search results in response to a user moving the moveable graphical control.

Claims

1. A method for managing search results, the method comprising:

a data processing system displaying the search results in a graphical user interface;

the data processing system displaying, concurrent with the display of the search results, a moveable graphical control in the graphical user interface; and

the data processing system changing a level of detail for the search results in response to a user moving the moveable graphical control.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the moveable graphical control is a slider in the graphical user interface.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of the data processing system changing the level of detail of the search results in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control comprises:

the data processing system changing an amount of information displayed for each of the search results displayed in the graphical user interface in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

responsive to a movement of a pointer over a search result, the data processing system displaying additional information for the search result.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the data processing system displays the additional information in one of a balloon and a pop-up window.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the data processing system is selected from one of a computer, a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a personal digital assistant, and a mobile phone.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein one of the search results comprises a universal resource locator, a title, a description, and one or more related universal resource locators.

8. A data processing system for managing search results, the data processing system comprising:

a CPU, a computer-readable, tangible storage device, and a computer-readable memory;

first program instructions to display the search results in a graphical user interface;

second program instructions to display, concurrent with the display of the search results, a moveable graphical control in the graphical user interface; and

third program instructions to change a level of detail for the search results in response to a user moving the moveable graphical control; and

wherein

the first, the second, and the third program instructions are stored on the computer-readable tangible storage device for execution by the CPU via the computer-readable memory.

9. The data processing system of claim 8, wherein the user moves the moveable graphical control to change the level of detail during one of before the search results are displayed and after the search results are displayed.

10. The data processing system of claim 8, wherein the moveable graphical control is a slider in the graphical user interface.

11. The data processing system of claim 8, wherein the fourth program instructions to change the level of detail in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control comprises:

program instructions to change an amount of information displayed for each of the search results displayed in the graphical user interface in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control.

12. The data processing system of claim 8 further comprising:

fourth program instructions to display additional information for a search result in response to a movement of a pointer over the search result, wherein the fourth program instructions are stored on the computer-readable tangible storage device for execution by the CPU via the computer-readable memory.

13. The data processing system of claim 12, wherein the additional information is displayed in one of a balloon and a pop-up window.

14. The data processing system of claim 8, wherein the data processing system is selected from one of a computer, a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a personal digital assistant, and a mobile phone.

15. The data processing system of claim 8, wherein one of the search results comprises a universal resource locator, a title, a description, and one or more related universal resource locators.

16. A computer program product comprising a computer-readable tangible storage device(s) and computer-readable program instructions stored on the computer-readable tangible storage device(s) to manage search results, wherein the computer-readable program instructions, when executed by a CPU:

display the search results in a graphical user interface;

display, concurrent with the display of the search results, a moveable graphical control in the graphical user interface; and

change a level of detail for the search results in response to a user moving the moveable graphical control.

17. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein the moveable graphical control is a slider in the graphical user interface.

18. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein, in being executed to change the level of detail in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control, the computer-readable program instructions, when executed by the CPU:

change an amount of information displayed for each of the search results displayed in the graphical user interface in response to the user moving the moveable graphical control.

19. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein the computer-readable program instructions, when executed by the CPU:

display additional information for a search result in response to a movement of a pointer over the search result.

20. The computer program product of claim 19, wherein in being executed to display the additional information for the search result in response to the movement of the pointer over the search result, the computer-readable program instructions, when executed by the CPU:

display the additional information in one of a balloon and a pop-up window.
