Abstract

A system, method, and computer readable medium for generating an information integration flow design (IIFD). The system includes a processor to receive a conceptual model of the IIFD, having an extract phase, a load phase, and a transformation phase, an extract unit to model an interface between a data source information object and a transformation function based on at least one extract hypercube, a load unit to specify at least one load hypercube and a data warehouse target object, a transformation unit to express one or more steps as a hypercube operation, and a translation unit to generate the IIFD based on the conceptual model. The method includes receiving a conceptual model of the IIFD having an extract phase, a load phase, and a transformation phase. The method generates logical information integration operations based on the conceptual model. A computer readable medium may include instructions to generate the IIFD.

Claims

1. A system for generating an information integration flow design (IIFD), the system comprising:

a processor configured to receive a conceptual model of the IIFD, the conceptual model having an extract phase, a load phase, and a transformation phase;

an extract unit connected to the processor configured to model an interface between a data source information object and a transformation function based on at least one extract hypercube;

a load unit connected to the processor configured to specify at least one load hypercube and a data warehouse target object;

a transformation unit connected to the processor configured to express one or more steps as a hypercube operation; and

a translation unit connected to the processor configured to generate the IIFD based on the conceptual model.

2. The system of claim 1, the transformation unit configured to define a function that maps the at least one extract hypercube to the at least one load hypercube.

3. The system of claim 1, the transformation unit configured to express a function that maps the data source information object to the data warehouse target.

4. The system of claim 1, further including in the extract phase interface model at least one annotation specifying how a hypercube is created.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the conceptual model includes one or more high-level semantics of the information integration flow design.

6. The system of claim 1, the translation unit configured to machine translate the conceptual model into a logical model.

7. The system of claim 1, further including representing, in the conceptual model extract phase, a data object as a hypercube.

8. The system of claim 1, further including, in the load phase, the step of including in the at least one load hypercube data from the data source information object to be stored in the data warehouse target.

9. The system of claim 2, the transformation unit configured to implement the function as a series of macro operators.

10. The system of claim 3, the transformation unit configured to implement the function as a series of macro operators.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the conceptual model includes annotations specifying creation of the at least one extract hypercube from the data source information object.

12. The system of claim 1, further including a semantic consistency unit configured to check a semantic consistency of the information integration flow design.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the IIFD is generated based on intrinsic hypercube operators.

14. A method for generating an information integration flow design, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a conceptual model of the information integration flow design (IIFD), the conceptual model having an extract phase, a load phase, and a transformation phase;

wherein the extract phase, models an interface between a data source information object and a transformation function based on at least one extract hypercube, the load phase specifies at least one load hypercube and a data warehouse target object, and the transformation phase expresses one or more steps as a hypercube operation; and

generating IIFD based on the conceptual model.

15. The method of claim 14, further including, in the transformation phase, the step of defining a function that maps the at least one extract hypercube to the at least one load hypercube.

16. The method of claim 14, further including, in the transformation phase, the step of expressing a function that maps the data source information object to the data warehouse target.

18. The computer readable program of claim 14, further including defining a function that maps the at least one extract hypercube to the at least one load hypercube.

19. The computer readable program of claim 14, further including expressing a function that maps the data source information object to the data warehouse target.

20. The computer readable program of claim 14, further including machine translating the conceptual model into a logical model.

17. A computer readable program encoded in a computer readable medium comprising:

an executable computer program code configured to instruct a system to define an information integration flow, the executable computer program code comprising the steps of;

receiving a conceptual model of the information integration flow design, the conceptual model having an extract phase, a load phase, and a transformation phase;

wherein the extract phase, models an interface between a data source information object and a transformation function based on at least one extract hypercube, the load phase specifies at least one load hypercube and a data warehouse target object, and the transformation phase expresses one or more steps as a hypercube operation; and

generating logical information integration operations based on the conceptual model.
