A method of determining current through an inductor (iL) in a power converter system inside a hybrid electric vehicle with an electric motor and a generator, the power converter system being connected between a high-voltage traction battery and a direct current (DC) bus for driving the electric motor and the generator with electric power from the traction battery, the method comprising:
- determining battery output current (ibatt);
determining a voltage across the inductor (vL); and
determining the current through the inductor (iL) based on the battery output current (ibatt) and the voltage across the inductor (vL).
