1. An electronic device comprising:
- a housing;
a touch surface exposed to a surface of the housing;
a displacement detector configured to detect a displacement of an object touching the touch surface based on a light from the touch surface;
a rotational movement detector configured to detect a rotational movement of the object based on the displacement detected by the displacement detector;
a linear movement detector configured to detect a linear movement of the object based on the displacement detected by the displacement detector;
a signal generator configured to generate a first operation signal corresponding to the rotational movement detected by the rotational movement detector and to generate a second operation signal corresponding to the linear movement detected by the linear movement detector; and
a control unit configured to control an operation to be performed based on the first operation signal and an operation to be performed based on the second operation signal.

The control unit controls an operation to be performed based on the operation signal.
