Abstract

An integrated hybrid system is provided. The hybrid system includes compute components of different types and architectures that are integrated and managed by a single point of control to provide federation and the presentation of the compute components as a single logical computing platform.

2. A computer program product for providing an ensemble, said computer program product comprising:

a computer readable storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit for performing a method comprising;

coupling a plurality of heterogeneous computing systems as an ensemble, wherein one computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has one system architecture and another computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has another system architecture different from the one system architecture; and

defining a management domain that provides a boundary for the ensemble, the management domain managing resources across the plurality of heterogeneous computing systems.

3. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the boundary of the ensemble defines the resources that are to be managed and one or more management disciplines used to manage those resources.

4. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the method further comprises managing the plurality of heterogeneous computing systems as a single virtualized pool of server resources.

5. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the management domain comprises a single point of control to provide authoritative control for the ensemble.

6. The computer program product of claim 5, wherein the single point of control is distributed within elements of the ensemble and exclusively provides management control for the ensemble.

7. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the resources comprise a data network providing any-to-any connectivity across the ensemble.

8. The computer program product of claim 7, wherein the method further comprises managing the data network across the ensemble using a plurality of management networks of the management domain.

9. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the resources comprise a workload, the workload comprising a plurality of virtual servers supporting an application.

10. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the managing comprises managing at least one of configuration, monitoring, performance or availability of resources within the ensemble.

11. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the coupling comprises coupling one hybrid computing node with another hybrid computing node, wherein the one hybrid computing node includes the one computing system and the another hybrid computing node includes the another computing system.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the another computing system comprises a blade extension and the one computing system comprises a processing system having a support element coupling the one computing system to a management console used in managing the ensemble.

13. The computer program product of claim 2, wherein the one computing system and the another computing system are within one computing node, and wherein the one computing system comprises a support element coupling the one computing system to the another computing system.

14. A computer system for providing an ensemble, said computer system comprising:

a memory; and

a processor in communications with the memory, wherein the computer system is configured to perform a method, said method comprising;

coupling a plurality of heterogeneous computing systems as an ensemble, wherein one computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has one system architecture and another computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has another system architecture different from the one system architecture; and

defining a management domain that provides a boundary for the ensemble, the management domain managing resources across the plurality of heterogeneous computing systems.

15. The computer system of claim 14, wherein the management domain comprises a single point of control to provide authoritative control for the ensemble, wherein the single point of control is distributed within elements of the ensemble and exclusively provides management control for the ensemble.

16. The computer system of claim 14, wherein the resources comprise a data network providing any-to-any connectivity across the ensemble, and wherein the method further comprises managing the data network across the ensemble using a plurality of management networks of the management domain.

17. The computer system of claim 14, wherein the resources comprise a workload, the workload comprising a plurality of virtual servers supporting an application.

18. The computer system of claim 14, wherein the coupling comprises coupling one hybrid computing node with another hybrid computing node, wherein the one hybrid computing node includes the one computing system and the another hybrid computing node includes the another computing system.

19. A method of providing an ensemble, said method comprising:

coupling a plurality of heterogeneous computing systems as an ensemble, wherein one computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has one system architecture and another computing system of said plurality of heterogeneous computing systems has another system architecture different from the one system architecture; and

defining a management domain that provides a boundary for the ensemble, the management domain managing resources across the plurality of heterogeneous computing systems.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the management domain comprises a single point of control to provide authoritative control for the ensemble, wherein the single point of control is distributed within elements of the ensemble and exclusively provides management control for the ensemble.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein the coupling comprises coupling one hybrid computing node with another hybrid computing node, wherein the one hybrid computing node includes the one computing system and the another hybrid computing node includes the another computing system.
