Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes generating in a unified computing system (UCS) environment a first software process representing a person, a second software process representing a sensor associated with the person, a third software process representing a property associated with the person, and a fourth software process representing a virtual community that the person is associated with. The method includes establishing in the UCS environment by execution of the first, second, third, and fourth software processes a virtual relationship among the person, sensor, property, and virtual community.

Claims

1. A method comprising, by one or more computer systems:

generating in a unified computing system (UCS) environment;

a first software process representing a person;

a second software process representing a sensor associated with the person;

a third software process representing a property associated with the person; and

a fourth software process representing a virtual community that the person is associated with; and

establishing in the UCS environment by execution of the first, second, third, and fourth software processes a virtual relationship among the person, sensor, property, and virtual community.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are distributed across a plurality of computing platforms in a distributed UCS environment.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are dynamically deployed according to a sensor-information model to the computing platforms to facilitate resource management in the UCS environment.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are each a single thread of execution.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the first software process is generated in response to the person being joined to the UCS environment;

the second software process is generated in response to the sensor being joined to the UCS environment;

the third software process is generated in response to the property being joined to the UCS environment; and

the fourth software process is generated in response to the virtual community being joined to the UCS environment.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the property is a residence or the office of the person.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the UCS environment comprises one or more application programming interfaces (APIs) enabling one or more applications to initiate services in the UCS or to respond to events in the USC by initiating services in the UCS.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the API is provided by a web service framework.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the API is provided to a dynamically spawned process.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the API is provided to a compiled or interpreted scripting language based application.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the UCS environment comprises an extensible framework for adding other software processes for providing services to the first, second, third, or fourth software processes

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a fifth software process in response to a request from the person to join the virtual community, the fifth software process being operable to handle the request.

13. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic operable when executed to:

generate in a unified computing system (UCS) environment;

a first software process representing a person;

a second software process representing a sensor associated with the person;

a third software process representing a property associated with the person; and

a fourth software process representing a virtual community that the person is associated with; and

establish in the UCS environment by execution of the first, second, third, and fourth software processes a virtual relationship among the person, sensor, property, and virtual community.

14. The media of claim 13, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are distributed across a plurality of computing platforms in a distributed UCS environment.

15. The media of claim 14, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are dynamically deployed according to a sensor-information model to the computing platforms to facilitate resource management in the UCS environment.

16. The media of claim 13, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are each a single thread of execution.

17. The media of claim 13, wherein:

the first software process is generated in response to the person being joined to the UCS environment;

the second software process is generated in response to the sensor being joined to the UCS environment;

the third software process is generated in response to the property being joined to the UCS environment; and

the fourth software process is generated in response to the virtual community being joined to the UCS environment.

18. The media of claim 13, wherein the property is a residence or the office of the person.

19. The media of claim 13, wherein the UCS environment comprises one or more application programming interfaces (APIs) enabling one or more applications to initiate services in the UCS or to respond to events in the USC by initiating services in the UCS.

20. The media of claim 19 wherein the API is provided by a web service framework.

21. The media of claim 19, wherein the API is provided to a dynamically spawned process.

22. The media of claim 19, wherein the API is provided to a compiled or interpreted scripting language based application.

23. The media of claim 13, wherein the UCS environment comprises an extensible framework for adding other software processes for providing services to the first, second, third, or fourth software processes

24. The media of claim 13, wherein the logic is further operable when executed to generate a fifth software process in response to a request from the person to join the virtual community, the fifth software process being operable to handle the request.

25. An apparatus comprising:

one or more communication interfaces;

one or more memory devices containing one or more instructions for execution by one or more processing devices; and

the processing devices, operable when executing the instructions to;

generate in a unified computing system (UCS) environment;

a first software process representing a person;

a second software process representing a sensor associated with the person;

a third software process representing a property associated with the person; and

a fourth software process representing a virtual community that the person is associated with; and

establish in the UCS environment by execution of the first, second, third, and fourth software processes a virtual relationship among the person, sensor, property, and virtual community.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are distributed across a plurality of computing platforms in a distributed UCS environment.

27. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are dynamically deployed according to a sensor-information model to the computing platforms to facilitate resource management in the UCS environment.

28. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are each a single thread of execution.

29. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein:

the first software process is generated in response to the person being joined to the UCS environment;

the second software process is generated in response to the sensor being joined to the UCS environment;

the third software process is generated in response to the property being joined to the UCS environment; and

the fourth software process is generated in response to the virtual community being joined to the UCS environment.

30. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the property is a residence or the office of the person.

31. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the UCS environment comprises one or more application programming interfaces (APIs) enabling one or more applications to initiate services in the UCS or to respond to events in the USC by initiating services in the UCS.

32. The apparatus of claim 31 wherein the API is provided by a web service framework.

33. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the API is provided to a dynamically spawned process.

34. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the API is provided to a compiled or interpreted scripting language based application.

35. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the UCS environment comprises an extensible framework for adding other software processes for providing services to the first, second, third, or fourth software processes

36. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the processing devices are further operable when executing the instructions to generate a fifth software process in response to a request from the person to join the virtual community, the fifth software process being operable to handle the request.

37. A system comprising:

means for generating in a unified computing system (UCS) environment;

a first software process representing a person;

a second software process representing a sensor associated with the person;

a third software process representing a property associated with the person; and

a fourth software process representing a virtual community that the person is associated with; and

means for establishing in the UCS environment by execution of the first, second, third, and fourth software processes a virtual relationship among the person, sensor, property, and virtual community.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are distributed across a plurality of computing platforms in a distributed UCS environment.

39. The system of claim 38, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are dynamically deployed according to a sensor-information model to the computing platforms to facilitate resource management in the UCS environment.

40. The system of claim 37, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth software processes are each a single thread of execution.

41. The system of claim 37, wherein:

the first software process is generated in response to the person being joined to the UCS environment;

the second software process is generated in response to the sensor being joined to the UCS environment;

the third software process is generated in response to the property being joined to the UCS environment; and

the fourth software process is generated in response to the virtual community being joined to the UCS environment.

42. The system of claim 37, wherein the property is a residence or the office of the person.

43. The system of claim 37, wherein the UCS environment comprises one or more application programming interfaces (APIs) enabling one or more applications to initiate services in the UCS or to respond to events in the USC by initiating services in the UCS.

44. The system of claim 43, wherein the API is provided by a web service framework.

45. The system of claim 43, wherein the API is provided to a dynamically spawned process.

46. The system of claim 43, wherein the API is provided to a compiled or interpreted scripting language based application.

47. The system of claim 37, wherein the UCS environment comprises an extensible framework for adding other software processes for providing services to the first, second, third, or fourth software processes

48. The system of claim 37 further comprising means for generating a fifth software process in response to a request from the person to join the virtual community, the fifth software process being operable to handle the request.
